I am back from vacation and wanted to share a minor update to the Hive Authors Compare tool. You can use the tool at: https://seattlea.z5.web.core.windows.net/
In this update I have added the list of top 100 authors sorted by rewards for the past year. You can sort the table by Rank, Author or Rewards. You can also search for an author by typing in author name in the search box above the authors table and it would filter the table by the characters you have typed in, for example I have entered "se" and this is the result:
This is table is useful to see what the top authors on Hive are posting and you can pick any authors from the list to compare as well as click on the author name and do further research in terms of what kind of subjects these authors are writing about.
What is interesting about top one hundred most rewarded authors on Hive for the last year is the un-even distribution of the author rewards in the top 100:
The drop off is most extreme in the first six most rewarded authors with poshtoken at 54K Hive per year being the biggest outlier in terms of author rewards and then almost eleven thousand Hive lower we have oflyhigh and then nine thousand lower we have cryptoandcoffee followed by tarazkp two and a half thousand lower, followed by libertycrypt27 almost six thousand Hive lower, followed by papilloncharity 3K lower rounding up the top six.
After the top six we no longer see multi-thousand hive drops we see a much lower drops in annual Hive rewards. The difference between number six and number ten is only around two thousand hive. And the difference between number ten and number twenty is under six thousand Hive per year. And it flattens out even further with number 30 being less than two thousand hive below number 20.
Without the top two most rewarded authors the chart looks like this:
It makes it pretty clear that top five are authors in the category of their own. Then we have 6-15 being the next top performing author category with 23.5K to 20.3K Hive per year.
Third high performing batch of authors reside between number 16 and number 28 earning between 18.5K Hive and 14.3K Hive per year and then we have basically everyone else in the top one hundred.
Without top five we have the following view:
So given the fact that we have four categories of Hive authors in the top one hundred, in my next post on this subject I am going to try to analyze what makes these top three categories of authors differ from each other using various author metrics.
By then I plan to make a few updates to this tool to make author analysis and comparison more intuitive.
The table below is monthly unique authors on Hive. You can see a clear trend of dwindling number of Hive authors from the start of this year.
If we take an average of around seven thousand authors on Hive per month then top one hundred represents about 1.43% of the total Hive authors. If we take Hive Witness rewards which represent 10% of annual Hive reward pool and we take weekly Witness Hive rewards of 79,245 Hive times 52 weeks we will get 5,886,771 Hive per year going to witnesses:
Author and curator rewards represent 65% of the Hive reward pool. In theory authors and curators should earn about the same amount so author rewards should represent 32.5% of the total Hive reward pool, or 3.25 times the Hive witness rewards: 5,886,771*3.25=19,132,007 total author rewards.
If we total the rewards of the top one hundred Hive authors we will get: 1,396,448 or 7.3% of total Hive author rewards. So 1.43% of Hive authors account for 7.3% of total Hive author rewards.
I am a Hive Witness and would really appreciate your vote for me as a witness: https://vote.hive.uno/@seattlea

Thank you!
Great update. The tool is becoming more complete every time!
It's nice to see concrete data on the distribution of rewards... and yes, I recognize someone in that top 10 :)
Until a few months ago, I didn't think it was possible to see myself among the top.
I am curious to read the next in-depth analysis on the factors that differentiate the various categories of authors.
