I think it’s been a minute since I last did this, but something happened sometime this evening, and I knew I just had to talk about it.
So, you can’t know me for a week, and you wouldn’t hear me talk about R&B. Emphasis on you’ll hear me talk about it, because I believe this particular genre of music is the best thing since sliced bread, but I may not share immediately because I really need to know and like a person before I share my kind of music, which as a few of you may already know, is impeccable.
So, yeah, I love the Rhythm and Blues genre way too much for my own good, if that’s even a thing, and if I’m not listening to Gospel, you can be sure that I’m listening to some good old R&B of the 80’s and 90’s. This kind of music is nearly a lost art now, and it’s sad. Anyway, that’s not the point to this.
The point to this is that for about a month or thereabout, I’ve not been able to bring myself to listen to Blues. Music, in general, but mostly blues, and I hated every moment of it because it really was out of my hands. I had an altercation or something like that, and believe it or not, but this altercation heavily affected my ability to listen to music without breaking down a little bit.
But, I started getting over it recently, and I’m super ecstatic that today, for the first time in a while, I listened extensively to Blues, and I felt tears of joy leave my eyes. One of the songs I listened to, is what I’m about to share with you all.
I’ll tell you something, Blues music is something else because apart from the rhythm which is the main reason I listen to it, the lyrics could be so out of pocket sometimes, that I begin to laugh. I may have abandoned writing this after the last sentence because I am, in fact, listening to blues as I write this, and I did a little dance in front of the mirror, or what I call dancing, lol.
Anyways, I’m back, so I can continue. Yes, the lyrics. Take this song “You Are” by Charlie Wilson, for example. There’s this last part of the song that I love so much because of how earnestly he sang that part, but I also find it amusing because telling someone, “You’re all that I am,” “You’re the air that I breathe.”
Damn, what even is that?
It’s no different with what you’d say to God. I guess that’s another reason I fancy Blues. It’s so similar to Gospel in terms of its essence. You’re singing a love song to God in gospel, and in blues, you’re singing a love song to God’s best creation. The common denominator being love and God.
Anyway, asides my happiness that I can now listen to blues again without feeling some type of way, the lyrics of this song was too beautiful to handle, and I may have listened to it about fifty times already, which means I feel okay sharing it with you all. I’ve had my fill already, and feel no need to gate keep anymore.
I know. You’re welcome, lol.
I’m going back to listen to my music now, and do other beautiful things, but this is me holding your hand gently to say that if you currently have no one to sing words like this too, then that’s quite sad for you. But don’t worry, you can always sing it to God, lol. D for Daalu.
