I never knew there was a term for late night sleepers (MIDNIGHT OWL), until recently when i came in touch with this community. This was around the last quarter of last year to be precise. Honestly, i still don’t know how i came to be a midnight owl till date. The only thing i can say about this for a fact, is that i know when and how it all started. This is a journey that began even before i became a teenager, not to talk more about becoming an adult. I started staying up late at a very young age, I can’t really remember the precise age, but then I remember clearly how long it’s been…
I have been a midnight owl (late night sleeper) for over a decade now. I think back then i was still in the primary class. I didn’t become a midnight owl overnight, this is something I want you all to know and understand clearly. Something made me this way, there’s no action without a reason…

HOW IT ALL STARTED…
I come from a family of movie lovers, especially movies like Korean dramas and Bollywood movies. It all started with my mum, she is an avid lover of Bollywood movies, she started watching it even before we were born, since her youthful day to be precise. I think my elder sister inherited that part from her through gene, and just like that it kept on moving from one child to the other until it got to me…
My siblings and i picked up from where our mother stopped, ours was more advanced than hers, and that was because we added Korean dramas to the list, alongside it were other genres of movies. I grew up with my siblings who started buying Korean, Hollywood and Bollywood movies burned in discs with my their feeding allowance at a very young age. I watched them buy it, bring it home and watch it everyday, and just like that I grew up in their step and automatically became a lover…
My siblings would watch every single movie they buy till late night if there’s no interruption from our dad. Oh yeah, my dad can be a buzz kill when it comes to staying up late with movies. We only enjoy it when he’s not around, but then he is always around, so we had little time to enjoy the DVD player before he comes back home and takes over the television. The origin of this whole midnight owl thing started with both my DAD and the POWER SUPPLY AGENCY. Back then, light was more stable in the afternoon, that should be around 11am to 5pm, which is mostly when we all are in school, so no way to watch movies around that time. We mostly don’t have light when we get back, so we settle for the second batch, which is mostly from 12am to 7am in the morning. As a student, the first batch was out of reach, so we decided to settle for the midnight hour, but then our dad always had issues with it. We hardly ever saw any movies in the afternoon even when there’s light, and that’s because mum does her zee world thingy around that time…

Most times we watch these movies zero volume so that we won’t wake up our parents in the room. This is how we do it, one person (elder sister) is always in front of the tv and the DVD player with her thumb on standby, the second person (older brother) is always sitting towards the entrance of the room, holding the cotton and acting as a vigilante, while me, the third person is always sitting in the middle of the parlor to touch my sister when he alerts me of anything. Whenever either of our parents wakes up, mostly to urinate or to pray or to do anything, he signals me, while i signal my elder sister and she puts off everything immediately. After everything, we all form sleeping until either of them have done their business and are back in bed. Even after they head back to the room, we still wait for like 30-45 minutes before turning on the tv because the on button of television makes noise as hell 😂…
In summary, this was how it all started, until it became an habit that is now very difficult to stop. Lastly, a big shoutout to @samostically for this beautiful idea. Tell me sam, can you relate to this?…
I will be stopping here now, this is the first part of THE ORIGIN. The second part ( last part) will be be posted soon. Stay tuned. Let me know if you can relate to this personally…
