My GREATEST SERIES OF ALL TIME - KYLE XY

in Midnight Letters19 hours ago (edited)

Every time people talk about their most loved movies or the greatest series of all time, I already expect to hear the names of very popular shows, and rightly so. I mean, the fact that they continue to top the trend table on social media and dominate conversations proves how impactful they were to a large audience. However, the greatest movies or series I have seen are usually the ones that took the spotlight during their release and quietly faded after production stopped. This is exactly the case with my pick for the Midnight Letters Weekly Prompt #11:

What is the greatest series of all time and why?

This prompt makes me nostalgic because my greatest series of all time is one I watched as a young teenager. I was about 11 years old when I first saw it with my siblings, and we were completely glued to our screens because of the incredible storyline and wonderful acting. Even when it was time to return to boarding school for a new session, this series stayed on my mind. I could not wait to tell my friends about it, recap the scenes like we were at a storytelling gathering, and encourage them to buy the discs when we went home for the holidays.

Kyle XY is an American TV series that blends science fiction with drama and it features one of the most intriguing characters I have ever watched in my life. The first episode began with a mysterious scene of a teenage boy, Matt Dallas(16yo), wandering naked in the woods, near a detention centre. He seemed lost, with no memory and no understanding of who he was or how he got there. Something that caught my attention was the fact that he had no belly button, which instantly made him different from every other human.

The authorities found him and took him into juvenile detention where a psychologist there, Nicole Trager, was moved to adopt him after realizing that he needed special care. The series moved with Kyle as he adjusts to life with a new family, learns how to speak, socialize, and understand everyday human behaviour. Basically, he had to learn almost everything from scratch.

Why Kyle XY Remains My GOAT Series

Kyle XY remains my greatest series of all time because of the excitement it still gives me after all these years. I love that the series combined the science fiction with family drama in the most natural way. The suspense is well built, the humour was top notch, and considering how it started off, the show is surprisingly suitable for teenagers while still being entertaining for adults. I mean, everyone can safely watch it! Through this series, I was introduced to concepts like telepathy and telekinesis and it also gave me the idea that repetition and patterns shape how humans learn new things.

I absolutely loved the use of voice overs from the main character, Kyle, which made me experience his thoughts directly. Honestly, watching a 16 year old boy learn basic emotions like love, anger, and joy from scratch felt really intriguing. The involvement of secret agencies trying to reclaim him from his new family gave the series a nice twist and it was super interesting to watch.

The characters in Kyle XY were also a perfect fit. Generally, this is a series that ended up passing a strong message of love - that family is EVERYTHING and friendship is only true when we are accepted for who we are. For all these reasons, Kyle XY remains my greatest series of all time, and I truly wish it was never discontinued.
