Day 5: No Strings Attached – Just Serve

in Hive Learners6 months ago

Week 1, Day 5 – Serve Without Expecting
"Therefore, without attachment, perform your duty simply because it ought to be done. For a person who acts without attachment attains the Supreme." — Bhagavad Gita 3.19

This verse made me pause and think about how often I do things with some silent expectation—whether it’s appreciation, success, or even a thank you.

But Krishna's teaching here is clear: Do what you must, not for the outcome, not for applause, but because it's the right thing to do.

Today, I thought about all the small things I do daily—helping someone, completing work, listening to a friend, taking care of the house. Even though they seem routine, sometimes there's a little whisper inside that says, “Will anyone notice this?”

This verse is a reminder to let go of that whisper. To serve because it's part of who I am. To act not for credit, but for clarity. There's something freeing about not being tied to whether someone sees or rewards your effort—because then your peace doesn’t depend on anything outside of you.

It also made me feel that living this way can become a form of meditation. Just doing, without clinging. Just serving, with love.

Lessons from Today’s Reading:

  1. Act without attachment to results—it brings inner peace.
  2. The joy is in doing what’s right, not in getting something from it.
  3. Selfless action connects me to something higher than ego.

Actions for the Day:

  1. Choose one task today and do it with full presence—no rush, no expectations.
  2. Reflect on where I might be acting out of need for approval, and gently release it.
  3. At the end of the day, write down how it felt to act from a place of inner freedom.

I’m learning that peace doesn’t come from doing less, but from expecting less in return. And that’s a surprisingly beautiful shift.
