Looking around in a contemporary world you notice that a lot of people are engaging in various activities that are not worthy of a healthy living and fulfilled life. There are lots of vices in our words that when you let your guard down you can be susceptible to you most of these negative vices that are inherent in other humans to cause negativity and destroy our intent. Although in our contemporary world there are many factors that can lead to negative peer pressure and some of these includes low self-esteem which is one of the common factors another of which is influence from Friends senior colleagues the media the internet and so on.

So far one thing I have come to notice is that with a good family background and support children are known to be able to be high on assertiveness and not fall pressure for this negative vices that can doom ones personality. One major way that has helped me to ward off negative peer pressure is to build on my self confidence and not to be wholly dependent on anyhow. The ability to trust my judgement and knowing what is right from wrong and vice versa. I know it is a difficult to discern the truth and lie, right and wrong for many people but as they always say, good character is not built in a day hence the foundation is important, our guidance and parents have a lot of duty and role to play in shaping the lives of their wards right from a tender age.

These days, the children of wealthy parents smoke weed and drink lots of alcohol, even the poor are addicted to it. What could be the reason? For one, the child from the wealthy home should be privileged to have everything that is disposal money and The Good Life, but instead he chooses to engage in wayward life and often times, this is because of neglect from busy parents, some see as a coping mechanism to relieve themselves of stress, others do it to prove their status of entitlement and so many more. But for the poor who engage this activities most time it is due to neglect from their parents who cannot sustain the family and leave the children to fend for themselves at such tender age hence they are likely to be influenced by street urchins who would lure them to engage in bad activities like stealing, armed robbery, kidnapping, smoking, drinking of alcohols, becoming touts and so on. Call in the bid of survival.

Grew up having strict parents, who believes that child you'll be disciplined and love are the same time while being brought up in a Christian home all these values helped me to grow in accordance with being respect to satisfaction in whatever I own, building myself confidence, engaging in activities that builds a healthy and safe thinking space that invaluable when faced with negative influences from peers. Nothing I have come to notices that even children with good family background and good education can still be influenced negatively, so is one thing to be disciplined by your parents and is an other thing to invite those culture and training into your thinking faculty and employed in your day-to-day living.

In conclusion, my family background has played a major part in shaping me for who I am today. Also, I believe it's part of my individuality and mindset to do well and live well that has fostered my growth to accept only the positive aspects of life rather than be influenced by negativity. It's all about the individual personality. Also to minimize been negatively influenced I maintain a distance from people who don't add meaning positively to my life, or who don't give back the same energy and effort I put into our friendship. Also, I steer clear from hideous areas and street urchins. In all building my self esteem is important as it helps me stay focused.
