The HBO series will cover the events of the original game, which was written by Druckmann, with the possibility of additional content based on the forthcoming game sequel, The Last of Us Part II, which is set to released May 29.
The Last of Us won numerous "game of the year" awards and went on to sell more than 17 million copies across both its original release on the PlayStation 3 and a remastered version on PlayStation 4.

Thanks for posting to the GEEKZ community!

I've never played the game, but I've always thought it looked awesome. Would you recommend playing the game before seeing the upcoming TV series? Or maybe it's better not to, so I don't spoil any twists in the plot...

The game is a must, but it depends on what you like the most. For example, I didn't play Metro 2033 because I'm reading the book.
Also the TV series hasn't a release date yet.
