We Thought We'd Lost Our Wild Boy

in Caturday3 years ago (edited)

We thought we'd lost him. As in not just lost-can't-find-his-way-back, but likely dead. And we we soooo deeply sad for 3 days.

MD is our latest rescue cat - a wild black male who has been severely traumatized and abused. We have coaxed him to allow us to touch him, feed him and he finally felt safe enough, after almost a year, to sleep in the house - as long as he could come and go at his leisure. And our old Thai teak house was perfect for him.

And then the termites ravaged our old wooden house, the roof came off and we were forced to move. It was never a question that MD was coming with us, but we worried about the HOW of confining him safely for the first week. Let's just say it was rough. but he came through like a champion, and was finally allowed out. And for 4 days he was fabulous - came in for meals, slept inside with us (which he wasn't thrilled about but tolerated) and hissed at a couple of other curious neighbourhood cats who hopped over the tall, secure brick fences to check out the new boy.

Until day 4 when he refused to come in late evening. I knew he heard me and was close somewhere, but he refused to come in and so I, with some hesitation, left him outside for the night.

FFWD to 4.49am when I woke to the sound of an unbelievably vicious cat fight. I raced outside, and saw MD fighting for his life with a HUGE black and white male cat, and then they both bounded off into the jungle across from our house in the pre-dawn light.

MD didn't come back for 3 days.

We called, and searched (as much as one can in that snake pit jungle zone across the road) and prayed.

And then just when it seemed like he was lost-lost or lost-dead, he limped in for breakfast. And slurped his way with his damaged mouth (we think kicked in his previous life) through 2 HUGE kitty breakfasts. And than lay down too exhausted to even groom himself.

He was filthy, ravenously hungry and COVERED in bites and sores.

He was also TERRIFIED and has spent 3 days now alternating between a snuggly spot in my bed, and cowering under the kitchen cupboard. As much as part of me wanted to take him to a vet, he was so scared and has been such a traumatized kitty through his life, that it seemed more cruel than nursing him at home.

I've been cleaning his wounds alternating with colloidal silver, colloidal copper and activated charcoal. He's been eating well and yesterday finally his big leg shoulder wound spontaneously drained of a seriously incredible amount of bloody pus. I put him on a towel and just let it drain. And he seemed instantly happier. Purred. Hasn't been licking it at all.

MDBack3.jpg

He oozed from about 4 spots for half a day and then everything started to close and heal. I followed him round the house with disinfectant and the colloidal sprays, literally mopping up after him!!

He previously had refused to go outside or even anywhere NEAR the open front door but yesterday he felt better enough to sit in the sun on the front mat.

And then ventured out a bit further onto the porch.

MDBack5.jpg

That's as far as he's got so far, but he's wandering out within a couple of meters from the house a few times now. He knows he's safe with us in the house!!

He's eating well and healing, and getting on just fine with our other two kitties, who are simply giving him space. all very harmonious and domestic.

And so our wild boy is home.

I have NO DOUBT that when he's recovered the jungle across the road will prove irresistible, and that he'll be over there again. Sigh

No sign whatsoever of the big black and white tom - and hoping he got the message that this is MD's house now.

Loving our boy and grateful he's home & healing.

Oh, they do worry us. Our black Princess is such a fighter and we are trying to tame Rambo, a ginger feral. Glad he's home and recovering.

I tell him constantly that he's safe here and that we'll scare the evil neighbourhood baddies away for him, but he's soooooo used to going it alone. it was the sweetest thing to see him come back and KNOW that he's safe here.

Great job with Rambo (aptly named1) and Princess, kitty-mama!!

Lucky little guy to get taken in and looked after. there's too many in a poor situation like this. Our dog was a soi dog, rescued from the side of the road when she was a puppy. Unfortunately we can only have 1, otherwise id bring them all home

I find it appalling that people still breed and BUY animals when there are so many lovable pets abandoned and mistreated who need love & adoption.

Always happy to meet a fellow human in TH who cares about the soi dogs too. Where do you normally live??

I was in BKK for almost 10 years but have moved to Chonburi and been here for almost 2. Just spent 2 weeks up in the north visiting the mountains and enjoying the cooler weather.

I am happy that he is back home and Your taking care of him!
I used to like different kinds of Cats (I'm an absolute Cat Lover) but,
Black male Cats are just the best - have 3 all strays.
After they get to know You they are the most Loving!
Have a Great Upcoming Week!

Thanks for swinging by, @lesmann - just last night my daughter said just that - that our black boy rescue is SO LOVING and SO ALL OVER US now that it's hard to believe.

Our 3 were all rescue-adopts and thankfully get on just great.

Hoping to see some great posts from you this week too. Are you posting about Hive & #parler ? or the meteoric rise of btc ?

Hi There!
Very Good to see You as well!

I actually have 3 Black males (all strays), Juniors Dad & Brother, but the Dad and Brother go in excursions that last a day or two. They just come back, check-in, get fed and their gone again for another day or so.
But Junior stays right here. He has adopted the role of King & lap kitty, most Loving Cat I have ever known, and I have known lots!
😸🐈😸
Well posting this week, normal Art stuff - of course, at some point when I get to re-organizing a little I may switch to some real Art (sketches, etc...).
Of course, I could do a post a a brand-new thing I found!
It's like "Hive & Instagram" mixed called,
"Noise.Cash" - noise.cash
Highly Recommend!
People pay about the same, they call them tips, and it's in
"Bitcoin Cash", shoots straight to Your wallet as soon as someone Tips!
It's about a week old, and I like it!
They give You a few bucks to get started,
If You try this remember this tip,
Set the tip meter to 50% back -
It then becomes a cash turbocharger, when mixed
With the free tips they give. Could be (already is) huge in a month!
Otherwise doing the "old man shuffle", he he he!
😆😂😆
Wish You a Very Awesome Blessed Day!

It is heartbreaking to see him wounded like that. Glad he came back and healing well.

Glad to hear that MD made his way back home. I've had similar experiences with some stray, lost or abandoned cat friends that took shelter at my place.

I found your remark about deciding not to further traumatize MD with a Vet visit, understandable. As long as you are able to offer loving care for his wounds, I am sure he will heal better and at a quicker rate. I've done that in the past for the same reason and sometimes for economic reasons as well, when times were tough.

Right now, I'm going through trying to tenderly and lovingly care for the female that I rescued from an alley in the city eleven years ago, as a kitten... who appears to be in her final days here with me.

I finally got her to at least sip some water after three days, but she still refuses food after seven days. She's also doing that sick or injured hiding away thing animals do at those times, and not grooming herself.

Hold on a sec... She must have heard me thinking about her, she just made her way onto my desk in front of me, from out of the closet...

Now, she fell asleep in my arms... I'll be back later.
