Desde hace un tiempo, un pequeño gato se ha colado en mi hogar sin haber sido invitado. Se pasea sin miedo por mi portal, se acomoda en mi cocina, husmea por el cuarto, el baño y por toda la casa. Es el gato de mi vecino. Primero le eché un poco de comida en el suelo porque no imaginé que se fuera quedar, pero al ver que pasaban los días y siempre volvía, ya le habilité un recipiente oficial para que coma y hacer más formal la relación.

For a while now, a little cat has been sneaking into my home uninvited. It fearlessly strolls through my doorway, settles in my kitchen, sniffs around the bedroom, the bathroom, and all over the house. It's my neighbor's cat. At first, I tossed some food on the floor because I didn't think it would stay, but as the days passed and it kept returning, I eventually set up an official bowl for it to eat from, making our relationship more formal.

Me he dado cuenta que lo que más le gusta es el pollo. Cada vez que siente su olor, enseguida aparece y se acomoda en el piso de la cocina a esperar lo que le toca. Él sabe muy bien aplicar aquel viejo refrán que dice: "Es mejor llegar a tiempo, que ser invitado". Yo le doy los pellejos, los cartílagos y come huesos como si fuera un perro, los deja sin la más mínima fibra, sin el más mínimo vestigio de carne, le encanta chuparlos, en eso se parece a mí.🤭

I've realized that what it loves most is chicken. Whenever it catches the scent, it immediately appears and settles on the kitchen floor, waiting for its share. It knows how to apply that old saying perfectly: "It's better to arrive on time than to be invited." I give it the skin, cartilage, and bones, and it eats them like a dog, leaving not the slightest fiber or trace of meat behind. It loves sucking on them, and in that way, it's just like me.🤭

Han pasado unos meses y a estas alturas, ya tengo mis dudas si todavía sigue siendo del vecino o mío. Es que se ha instalado en mi casa con toda tranquilidad y seguridad. A mí no me molesta para nada, al contrario, es un gatito muy cariñoso, se pasea por mis piernas y me roza con suavidad, incluso, con el estómago lleno. Además, un gato siempre hace falta, es bueno tenerlo por si a algún ratón se le ocurre merodear por aquí.

Several months have passed, and at this point, I'm starting to wonder whether it still belongs to my neighbor or if it's mine now. It has settled into my home with complete calm and confidence. It doesn't bother me at all; on the contrary, it's a very affectionate little cat. It strolls around my legs and gently brushes against me, even on a full stomach. Cuando le pregunté a mi vecino si el gatico tenía nombre, me dijo que su hijo le había puesto, cuando nació, el nombre de un famoso futbolista italiano llamado Fratesi que a él le gusta mucho. Dice que luego se dieron cuenta de que era hembra 🤭, pero se quedó así mismo con ese nombre. Entonces, lo que yo creí que era gato, resulta que ahora es gata.

When I asked my neighbor if the cat had a name, he told me that his son had named it after a famous Italian footballer he really likes, Frantesi, when it was born. He said they later realized it was a female🤭, but the name stuck anyway. So, what I thought was a male cat turns out to be a female.

Por años los gatos han tenido fama de ser expertos ladrones de comida, acostumbran a subirse en las mesetas de las cocinas y robar lo que puedan. Sin embargo, Fratesi, quizás porque aún es demasiado joven y no ha aprendido las malas prácticas 🤭, jamás en la vida me ha robado nada, cuando siente los olores de la comida, se acerca y espera paciente a que yo le sirva.

For years, cats have had a reputation as expert food thieves, accustomed to jumping onto kitchen counters and stealing whatever they can. However, Frantesi, perhaps because she's still too young and hasn't learned such bad habits🤭, has never stolen anything from me in her life. When she smells food, she comes close and waits patiently for me to serve her.

Hace años, cuando vivía con mis padres, tuve un gata que se llamaba Zuca, era traviesa y desaparecía con frecuencia de la casa, hasta un día que no volvió más. Nunca supimos que le pasó. Estuve unos días triste y nunca más quise tener un gato. El cariño hacia los gatos es una emoción singular, es un amor basado en el respeto mutuo y la admiración por su independencia y su libertad.

Years ago, when I lived with my parents, I had a cat named Zuca. She was mischievous and would often disappear from the house, until one day she never returned. We never found out what happened to her. I was sad for a few days and never wanted to have another cat again. Affection for cats is a unique emotion—it's a love based on mutual respect and admiration for their independence and freedom.

Los gatos son almas libres, como la mía, tal vez por eso siento afinidad con ellos. Fratesi de vez en cuando, ronronea por los rincones y cuando me observa con sus ojitos inocentes y a la vez misteriosos, es como si quisiera comprender los problemas que me angustian y hasta los secretos que guardo.

Cats are free souls, like mine, and perhaps that's why I feel an affinity with them. Frantesi occasionally purrs in the corners, and when she looks at me with her innocent yet mysterious little eyes, it's as if she wants to understand the problems that trouble me and even the secrets I keep.

Amar a un gato es aceptar que su afecto y su cariño no se mendigan, sino que se gana con paciencia y buen trato. Es disfrutar de sus fugas nocturnas y su vida aventurera. Acariciar su lomo suave tiene algo de terapia, un bálsamo contra el estrés. Y que permitan que lo toques es el regalo más valioso, significa su confianza voluntaria hacia uno.

Loving a cat means accepting that their affection and love aren't begged for but earned with patience and good treatment. It's about enjoying their nighttime escapades and adventurous lives. Stroking their soft backs is a kind of therapy, a balm against stress. And allowing you to touch them is the most valuable gift—a sign of their voluntary trust in you.

Fratesi es una gatita mansa y juguetona. Se ha hecho amiga de mi hijo y a cada rato deja que le acaricie la panza y la cabeza. Apenas maúlla, es una gata educada y estoy feliz conque me halla elegido. Ella no me necesita para ser feliz, pero si me ha elegido para compartir su felicidad conmigo.

Frantesi is a gentle and playful little cat. She has become friends with my son, often letting him stroke her belly and head. She barely meows—she's a well-mannered cat, and I'm happy she has chosen me. She doesn't need me to be happy, but she has chosen to share her happiness with me.

En mi casa se le da comida a varios gatos semi salvajes que merodean por el barrio. Siempre vienen a la hora de la comida pero mantienen las distancias.
