The taste of my first Handcrafted Beer [EN/FR]

in BEERlast year

Hey Hive !

A few weeks ago, I started brewing my first beer. I've even published a Hive of it for the curious. After fermentation, it was time for bottling, followed by a further wait before I could finally enjoy the result.

I even prolonged this wait, as I wanted to share this moment with my girlfriend's parents. It was thanks to them that I was able to make my first brew, so I wanted them to taste it first.

It seems to me that @godfish, @thebigsweed, @vindiesel1980 and @dreemsteem wanted to know what it was going to be like. So I mention you. 😜

My first production only filled two bottles. A deliberate choice, as I was apprehensive about the risk of a disappointing taste and the idea of having to throw away five liters of beer was unbearable for me.

So I've kept one bottle for a tasting with my girlfriend's parents and the other, perhaps to share with my own parents or friends. Either way, I'm planning to brew again, so there'll be something for everyone! 😜

When bottling, I used a bottle of Goudale - an excellent beer, by the way. A substantial deposit formed at the bottom, far too much in everyone's opinion. My mother-in-law joked that there was "plenty to eat and drink" in my beer. We all burst out laughing, of course.

On opening, the beer foamed intensely, mixing the deposit with the rest. To serve, we had to use a strainer. As a result, the color was far from limpid.

The smell was reminiscent of a strong beer. I'm guessing it was well over 7 or 8 degrees alcohol. Next time, I'll measure that more precisely with a densimeter.

I take a small sip, and let the beer flow over my tongue. The malt flavours are clearly present. The hops add a touch of acidity that balances the beer. And fortunately so, because apart from that, the beer is very strong and has a very strong bitterness.

Despite a few missteps in the process, the result exceeded my expectations. I even finished my glass. I didn't enjoy it, and I certainly wouldn't have paid for it in a bar. But knowing it was my own beer made the taste more bearable.

In 2024, I intend to continue brewing my own beer. I'll just have to find the time.

VERSION FRANCAISE

I'm glad your first brew went well :)) Cheers!

It wasn't perfect, but I'm still not dead, so it's a success! 😉

Nice love doing things like this! My brother made a decent beer!

I hope I can make more! Well, I know I could do more, but I hope they will be better than this one. What was your brother's beer?

hahahahah you did it!!!!!!!!!
I actually missed the tag somehow... I'm not sure it tagged me??? I just saw this post and came running to find out how it did.

cracking up at the "lots to drink and eat" hahahahahaha

hey - but we must start somewhere!!! LOL and this is not a bad first time!!! it can only get better!!! Onto tastier beers for 2024!!! hehehe

Yes, even though it wasn't great, I'm so glad I did it myself. All it did was make me want to do it again!

A friend of mine (the one who inspired me to get started) suggested a week ago that we make a brew together. I didn't say no.

Now we're going to have to find some time together. Since we finished high school, we've both taken very different paths to study (he in politics and I in IT), which has scattered us in different parts of France. He even left to complete his studies in several other countries.

But now, a word is a word, so we're going to do it!

hahahhaa well you must come up with a proper name for this Collab!! lol

sounds like a bit of fun and experimentation!

hopefully i don't miss the result!

Yes, you're right, I hadn't thought of that! I really hope it happens, and if it does, I'll let you know!

Not a fan of beer but I wish you good luck in bringing your beer production to the world.

Haha, I have no such pretension, but thank you so much for your encouragement!

This is commendable, it takes a lot of effort and creativity to brew a beer, though I'm not a fan of beer because my tongue is not capable of tolerating the taste of it. Good job, I'm sure your other attempts will be better.

Haha yes I understand how you feel, it's the same for my girlfriend. But that's taste and color!

Thanks for stopping by, and thanks for your nice comment!
