Beer Saturday - A pint in the Murrayfield Bar Edinburgh - Another pub in danger of going out of business

in BEER2 years ago

My wife and I went out for a few pints and dinner to the Murrayfield Bar in Edinburgh. Its a lovely pub, walking distance from the house.

I was on Heineken, and my wife was on pinot grigio. I have to say I'm quite a fan of Heineken - its a nice lager thats not too hoppy. Plus you can find it far and wide, and know what you are getting.

The pub we were in is going through pretty hard times. There is a load of street works right outside their door, which is really screwing up local traffic, and as a result its really damaging their business.

We were the only ones in for a meal, which is are shame because their food is excellent. I had a lovely burger, while my wife had fish and chips. Their food is very fresh, with qualify ingredients, and their chef is excellent. It was a shame to see him sitting at a table waiting for customers to walk through the door, with us being the only ones eating.

We also had three rounds of drinks - and there was very few other customers in, which is a shame. The guy that owns the pub is quite young, and he must be loosing money. It will be awful if he has to close up - its a lovely pub, and all the staff are nice, and their prices are very reasonable.

The pub is quite nice inside, and as you can see above, they have some artificial trees that look really cool ! Otherwise, the decor is that of a nice traditional Edinburgh pub.

If the name is familiar to you its because it is very close to the Scottish Rugby ground, which is called Murrayfield stadium. The pub is probably packed out on game days, which is probably the only thing keeping it going at the moment.

We've been a good few times for dinner now, and have enjoyed it each time. It'll be really sad if it closes up - so if you are ever in the area - drop in and say hi, and have a pint - and help keep their doors open !

Cheers Hoosie !

There is only one thing for it - you'll have to return have another !BEER and then maybe another, it's your civic duty to keep this place open.

Lol - dont worry, I'll be going back - but only for support purposes obviously !

Good stuff man, looks like a good night out, I always enjoy a few Brewdogs when I'm over that neck of the woods, in fact I'm going to get some for tomorrow now that you've put it in my head!

Supporting the local economy is the best reason to drink beer!

It's so heartbreaking to hear news like that. I think in England businesses can claim rates exemption from the council for road works if it impact their business. Is it available in Scotland?

Hopefully they will pull through

I'm not sure what they can claim - but the road works is affecting the whole street there and they are running a campaign to get additional support from the government. Plus the road works last until next summer - crazy !

Next summer???? This year's has hardly arrived yet 🤯
