My nephew and his partner visited us yesterday, so we went out for a beer in Stockbridge in Edinburgh. Its an area that has its own trendy village feel to it, and its really nice.
The best beer of the day for me was a Hells lager from Cambden. This beer was awesome. Really crisp, not at all hoppy. It really reminded me of the taste of Irish Harp Lager from the 70s & 80s (when my dad used to give me a sip of beer out of his can when I was just a kid). It was lovely. I hadnt heard of it before, but I'll be looking out for it again !
And we actually had this beer in a burger shop, which also had an alcohol license. The burgers were also awesome - so this place, is definitely on the list of places to visit again, and not that far from my house ! [this is the location I'll tag in pinmapple].
We then walked further along the road to have a pint in St Bernard's Bar.
We had a round of Heverlees. A really nice pint, maybe a little hoppy (not much) but a really nice pint. I quite like the St Bernard's Bar - its a little retro. They have quite a large vinyl record collection, so blast out tunes from the 60s onwards, and its really quirky inside - sort of makes me think of a Victorian Opium Den (not that I've ever been in one) ! And you can see in their sign outside that pub that they are trying to buy more vinyl for their record collection !
Next up was the Stockbridge Tap - quite a nice typical Edinburgh pub.
The Stockbridge Tap, has quite a good list of guest beers. They are listed on the chalk boards in the pic above, but they didnt come out as my camera was focused on my pint (just like me). We had 3 Newbarns Pilsners , again quite a nice pint, if a little hoppy.
Next up was some cocktails in a bar called Hamiltons. I had my usual go-to cocktail - a margarita. It was a little on the strong side, but on the whole it was good. I normally drink them frozen, but they were only serving them on the rocks.
And for the last beer out on the town, we headed to Bar Baillie where I had a pint of Birra Moretti - and Italian beer. Its quite a nice refreshing lager.
After Bar Ballie, we went home to the house for more Margarittas, Canadian Club and Rum (OVD), retiring at about midnight (having started at around 2.30pm) - so not a bad shift on the beer. So a good day all in all - even if I'm feeling a little rough today !
You sure did have a couple of beers just for a day! and pubs looks cool.
Many thanks !
