During my last trip to Santiago de Cuba, I had the chance to try two beers that I found almost everywhere: Unlaguer and Star with lemon. Two different options, each with unique stories and flavors.
Unlaguer
This beer comes from Spain and has become popular in several Caribbean countries. It is a clear, simple, and easy-to-drink beer. Its color is pale golden, with medium to strong carbonation that gives it a refreshing touch without being too intense. When you taste it, you notice a bitterness that is not too light and a smooth finish that doesn’t tire you. Perfect for the hot climate, it’s the kind of beer that accompanies any moment well without stealing the spotlight.
Belga Star with Lemon
Belga Star is a beer of Spanish origin that, in this version, is mixed with lemon, based on the German combination of beer and lemonade. Interestingly, in Santiago it’s sold as an energy drink, which surprised me quite a bit. It has a light yellow color, more translucent than Unlaguer, and fine bubbles that feel very smooth on the palate. The lemon adds a slightly sweet and citrusy touch that makes it lighter and fresher—ideal for those who prefer something less bitter with a more playful, summery profile.
In the end, these two beers were like a little journey themselves: Unlaguer with its honest simplicity, and Belga Star with lemon with its fun and different side. They left me wanting more variety, of course, but also certain that sometimes simplicity is exactly what we need to enjoy the moment.

Durante mi último a Santiago de Cuba tuve la oportunidad de probar dos cervezas que encontré en casi todo el territorio: la Unlaguer y la Star con limón. Dos opciones distintas, con historias y sabores únicos.
Unlaguer
Esta cerveza viene de España y se ha hecho popular en varios países del Caribe. Es una cerveza clara, sencilla y fácil de beber. Su color es dorado pálido, con una carbonatación media-fuerte que le da un toque refrescante sin ser demasiado intensa. Al probarla, notas un amargor no tan ligero y un final suave que no cansa. Perfecta para el clima caliente, es esa cerveza que acompaña bien cualquier momento sin robar protagonismo.
Belga Star con limón
La Belga Star es una cerveza de origen español que en esta versión viene mezclada con limón, basándose en la combinación usada en Alemania de cerveza y limonada. Curiosamente, en Santiago la venden como bebida energizante, lo que me sorprendió bastante. Tiene un color amarillo claro, más translúcido que la Unlager, y una burbuja fina que se siente muy suave en boca. El limón le aporta un toque cítrico y dulce (ligeramente) que la hace más ligera y fresca, ideal para quienes prefieren algo menos amargo y con un perfil más juguetón y veraniego.
Al final, estas dos cervezas fueron como un pequeño viaje en sí mismas: la Unlaguer con su sencillez honesta, y la Belga Star con limón con su lado divertido y diferente. Me dejaron con ganas de más variedad, claro, pero también con la certeza de que a veces lo simple es justo lo que necesitamos para disfrutar el momento.
