Beer Saturday with Belgian beers!

in BEER2 years ago

Beer and weekend... Can't separate thoso two from each other.

I wanna share my last saturday's discoveries to you guys.

Weather was fine, so I decided to go the park, in Tbilisi I found local Belgian beer shop and was very surprised by the selection presented in the shop, they had tons of different Belgian beers.

I decided to taste some of their classic white beers, Duvel and Chouffe. Both breweries are owned by Duvel Moortgat and they have quite of history in beer brewing, Chouffe is in the business from 1982 and Duvel from 1871.

750ml bottle really makes difference for the beers, which have secondary fermentation in the bottle. This Duvel was more than fine, 1.5 years old already.

In the evening it became little bit cold and I decided to go the random bar. Again, I was amazed when I found what selection of beers they had, but didn't wanna ruin Duvel taste, so I drank mainly Blond beers like Duvel and Chouffe.

I find extremely smooth and drinkable these type of Belgian white beers, but still they come with high ABV and in 3-4 bottle you might already get drunk, which is not a bad side by the way.

I discovered approximately 70-80 Belgian beers in this local pub, if you are interested in these type of articles, I will gladly share the place, the selection and small reviews about beers as well.

I wanna also share some small fun story, which I was told in the store by the owner, everybody has seen the logo of Chouffe, which is small gnome walking with some package with himself. In the village, where the beer comes from, it is believed that at the time when there was lack of food and beverage and people were struggling to feed their families, small gnomes, who lived nearby to the village, used to bring them food and beer to survive, it's like a small legend or fun story about the history of these gnomes in Belgium, so the owners of brewery honoured the story and gave respect to the gnomes by choosing it as a brand logo. Some people have to believe that, some just enjoy the story and nice beautiful logo of the brand.

A good choice of Belgian beers. However, just a few small corrections, they are not white beers at all, but blond beers. Totally different beer style. Moreover, both beers have a refermentation in the bottle, in both a 75cl and a 33cl bottle. There are even Belgian beers that have a refermentation in barrel. And the Houblon Chouffe, an IPA, which cannot be compared to the Blonde Chouffe at all. So, maybe give this one a try next time! Cheers!
