Magic: The Gathering features five colors of cards representing different philosophies of gameplay and deck design. It took a few years for the ideas to settle into a permanent pattern, and there are points of overlap, but each retains a very distinct identity.
While it is entirely possible to build a deck featuring a single color, more interesting interactions can occur when those colors are combined. There are ten two-color pairings and ten three-color groupings, each with a special name from the lore behind the game. You can find a color pairing tool here, and I used it as the source for the post image. The MTG Wiki also has articles on color and multicolored combinations.
I think @generikat's color identity is Naya, the Alara shard centered on Green, with Red and White as its secondary colors. She's a gardener and animal-lover, someone who likes growing things. That is as Green as can be. She's also a nurturer and healer, blending in more White attributes. But if you make her mad, she just might set you on fire. I thought about adding some Blue to represent her history as a librarian and teacher, but I'm trying to keep this to three colors. Sorry, Kat, your third color assignment from me is Red.
Our mutual friend T (not to be confused with her husband T) is a bit harder for me to place, even though I've known him for... never mind, let's not think about how the years add up. Anyway, he's a pretty easy-going fellow, and I think White is the primary color for his personality. When games (tabletop or video) are involved, he likes to play aggressively, and he will do whatever it takes to win. That fits the Red/Black pairing of Rakdos. Combined, that would put him in the Mardu Horde from Tarkir. However, here again, there's a massive gap leaving out his welding and construction abilities. Fortunately, Mardu can include lots of artifact shenanigans and make up for that.
As for me, I admit a longstanding habit of playing glass cannon characters in various games, and seeking to inflict maximum damage with minimal concern for my own well-being. That's Red, plain and simple. I'll claim Blue for my librarian career and interest in philosophy, plus preference for making my own rules instead of blindly following others. I'll also add White for myself, since I prefer to avoid conflict rather than attempt to intimidate my way through life. I guess that puts me in the Jeskai Way.
How would you align yourself with the 5 colors, 10 guilds, 5 wedges, or 5 shards? Chime in with your reasoning!

Those are way after my time but now that you're doing this I kind of wish I knew a little bit more about them rather than just knowing there's now suddenly codenames for colour combinations XD
reading did not help in this case x_x
When I played it was mostly monoblue, blue/white or blueb/black (I really liked klepto/nope), sometimes green/white (pretty sure I had a green/white pegasus deck). Didn't like red or black (though I did have a monoblack rat deck built around plague rats at one stage which was entertaining, and also a black/white cleric deck and I think a black/white angel deck?). I did like green but not as much as the other things.
I also did have this habit of making decks out of artwork that I liked x_x
J finally walked back to the room and he just said "Sultai til I die" when I told him about this for himself XD He added the possibility of Esper when I said it was a personality type thing not what kind of deck he prefers. I asked him what personality type he thought I would be and he said "Simic", I guess I'm not good enough for a third colour XD
edit: youngest rocked in and saw the colour wheel and when I told him what it was about he said GRIXIS! for himself XD So for completion's sake I asked eldest and he reckons Azurius for himself and I asked JJ again about middle child (who I don't think has ever played) and he said "Jund or Naya or something".
I see I started a family conversation/argument. This post is a success! Have some !PIZZA and !BEER to celebrate!
It sounds like you would fall solidly into Esper for deck style, but not necessarily for personality. Simic is fun. Think mad scientist gardener playing with mutations and forced evolution.
No arguments involved, just me mercilessly teasing him about not giving me a third colour XD
Well I guess that's kind of me in my head-universe (not that I have any control over that thing, I am just writing what I see XD) so maybe that's what he was thinking when he assigned that.
