We celebrate Good Friday by conducting via crucis in our community. It was already our tradition back then that via crucis serves as a way to remember how Jesus sacrifices himself for us for our sins. That we have the chances that we can enter heaven because our sins are already forgiven.
Good day everyone it's me again Khesia, Another day, another blog. Every good Friday here in our community we conduct via crucis. It's our tradition that we will have via crucis. Every household is merged depending on the quantity of members. Some of our members give They will prepare table with white cloth and candle. Before the day came each household prepares. The day came the members are expected to arrive at the chapel 6:30 am.
Our purok leader called out the members to start the via crucis. Each household should have someone to read the gospel and prayer for that station. Via crucis consists of 14 stations. We have to walk through each household that symbolizes each station. As we start just few members shows. The members just wait for their house or their station. Upon arriving in the house each member of the family would join the procession of the via crucis.
It's so overwhelming that you see how people reunite by showing interest on celebrating the death of Jesus that he save us from our sins. Growing up I'm already aware about via crucis or the death of Jesus. I remember in our cooperative that my mom attended every good Friday they will have via crucis around the place of the founder of the cooperative. As I remember also each member would have to read the gospel and the prayer.
After that the person who is reading should have a reflection towards the gospel. They will share with the other members their reflections and understanding towards what they have read. As I compare it to what we have conducted now it is quite different. But that's okay since the tradition wasn't forgotten. We still do it. And it also gives awareness to the young people. How Jesus sacrifices himself for us for our sins.
After all the station we return to the chapel for the final prayer. Afterwards they serve the sopas for us to have snacks.
Afterwards we decided to go home and do our chores. My mom goes to the supermarket and buys some stuff for us to cook binignit.
Binignit is a Visayan dessert soup from the central Philippines. The dish is traditionally made with glutinous rice cooked in coconut milk with various slices of sabá bananas, taro, ube, and sweet potato, among other ingredients. Every Filipino would cook it every good Friday symbolizing fasting. Honoring the disciples of Jesus that they have fasting.
That is how Filipinos continue the tradition and beliefs. And for me as a Roman Catholic it is important that we should respect each other's culture and traditions. That symbolizes us being a respectable person. That has empathy towards other people's perspectives. Thank you for reading. God bless!
