Homey Vibes and Local Bites at Cebu City's Hawker Center - THE BARRACKS !

in Hive PH7 months ago

As a girl living in the province, I only heard updates about the development of the city through TV News or Social Media. One of the developments I heard about that trended in the socmed was the renovation of the Carbon Market in Cebu, the launching of The Barracks, as they call it, the New Hawker Center in Cebu! Intrigued by what this "hawker Center in Cebu" offers and what it looks like, I have been meaning to come to this place and experience it in person! And finally, the time has come! I was like a moth drawn to a flame by excitement! Haha!

Coming from our Church visit in the South, my family decided to stop over at Cebu City's Carbon market and have our dinner at "The Barracks". I think I was one of the most excited to finally set foot in this center. I don't know if it was because I'm hungry or was it because I have been waiting for this time!

Welcome to the Barracks!

Right off the bat, it was the local design of the building itself that caught my attention upon entering the place! The entire interior will truly make one proud to be a Cebuano. It feels so warm and homey!

At the entrance, the stalls are filled with Cebuano handmade products such as woven fans, hats, lanterns, and many other eye-catching displays you will see. But wait, we came here for the food! Where's the food! Haha.

Foods that will make you drool!

We walked ourselves inside to find the food, and my eyes went wide upon seeing plenty of food stalls serving almost all kinds of local dishes! The first thing that caught my attention was the unli-seafood that still smoking! I think you'll find all variety of seafood there!

There was also unlimited lechon (famous roasted pig of Cebu), fried chickens, tuslob buwa, giant hot soups, sizzling sisigs, fruit shakes and juices, and different combo meals that will surely satisfy a hungry stomach! All the local dishes in Cebu that you could imagine are found in this one single place. Indeed, it really is a Hawker Center!

When is the best time to come here?

The place opens at 10:00 AM, but the place gets pretty crowded at night, according to social media posts! So I suggest, if your goal is to enjoy the food without feeling rushed and have a comfortable seat, better come there for an early dinner, like what we did!

For us we arrived there before 5:00 PM, and the place wasn't crowded yet. With this, we were able to find the best spot, a spot near the food stall where we ordered our food, and a spot where we could see the warmth and beauty of The Barracks, and a place not too close to the loud music.

It's good to experience this kind of Food Center in our city. It feels like a taste of home away from home, it's like having a homey meal at the heart of the city. Overall, we had a wonderful experience. the place is warm, the food is great, and the price is very affordable! We'll definitely come back!

We sometimes pass by this area but we haven't tried eating here. I love the colorful native decorations hanging at the ceiling and other native handmade products. They have different dishes to choose from and all are our traditional favorites.
