The Magic of Recycling! | Environmentalist's Initiative

in Hive PHlast year

"Recycling takes a little effort on your part, but makes a big difference to the the world." - Unknown

A big hello to the beautiful people of the Hive! I wish you all well and safe despite all the natural calamities that we are experiencing around the world which are mostly because of climate change. It is very painful to know that we, the stewards of the environment, had contributed too much to its destruction.😥

So for today's blog, I will be sharing about environmental awareness with #kapaligiran, a weekly contest initiated by the HivePh community. The topic brought out my interest because it is something that every one of us must be seriously concerned about.

Environmental issues are alarming worldwide. Climate change, degradation, and pollution are some of the major issues that call for immediate action. It has proven its worst effects on us and we already saw the might of its destruction.

Anong ambag mo para alagaan ang kapaligiran? ( What can you contribute to taking care of the environment?)

My proud answer is RECYCLING! This is my contribution aside from waste segregation, tree planting, and maintaining cleanliness in our surroundings. This is what I do in the house and my garden😊. But this time, I will not be featuring my plants but the materials that I have recycled where they were planted. I will be sharing how and what can we do with the waste or the "throw-away" materials into something useful and beautiful.

EMPTY PLASTIC BOTTLES

Overconsumption of plastic bottles is uncontrollable nowadays. As we see it, empty plastic bottles are littering everywhere. It seems that we had nothing to do to stop it. But one thing for sure is that we can do something to minimize it. That is recycling and it should start at home.

So, I will share to you some of the recycling I made with plastic bottles at home and of course in school where I also taught my students too.

You can choose not to put paint on them but since I have paint leftovers from my wall painting that I was able to save, I had it painted.😊

Tadaaahh! Beautifully arranged in front of my classroom😍

Look! I also used them on my orchid flowers at home🥰

Wait, there's more!

WASTE PLASTIC CONTAINERS

Plastic containers are not easy to dispose of but here's a more practical way to utilize them. Though it's not easy to cut it in half as small bottles it's very durable when you use it as a plant pot.

USED TIRES

IMG20221119165452.jpg

These tires are very difficult to dispose of and you cannot leave these anywhere. But let's make it still useful.

GLASS BOTTLES

IMG20221119164825.jpg

Note: Please don't place this in a pathway area. It's not safe because it's fragile and it might break and become a hazard to the people that pass to and fro.

IMG20221119164846.jpg

If you have noticed, I placed it inside another planting area. It's safer there. I buried I guess 1/4 of the bottle's length (it's a long-neck glass bottle) and even supported a tire and a tie wire, too.

USED SACKS

These are used sacks of cement. Instead of throwing it away, we used it as a planting sack.😊

SIMPLE PLUS TIPS!

Since Christmas is fast-approaching, I will share with you some practical and easy-to-make recycled Christmas tree decorations from small plastic bottles.🥰

  1. Gather the materials.

IMG20221120145435.jpg

(This is just for tutorial purposes, you can use as many small bottles if you like).

2.Prepare yourself😂 and cut the small plastic bottles in half.

3.In The first half which is the opening lid of the bottle, put vertical cuts around it (from the center). Space between cuts as you desired. Then, bend the cuts outward direction.

Don't forget to cut the sharp edges!

4.On the other half ( the bottom part of the bottle), cut five vertically around the bottle (from the center). Bend each cut outward. Cut the edges into triangular shapes to form a star.

Oops, don't forget to smoothen the sharp edges😊

TADAAHHHHH...THE FINISHED PRODUCT!
We have now Christmas tree decoration materials. You can use colored bottles or you can paint them to add color.

These will be an additional decor to our class Christmas tree which is all recycled materials. I can't wait to show it to you soon once it's done and complete. I and my students are trying our best to finish it before our scheduled Christmas party.😅

That's all for now Hive friends! I hope you've got something from this post that might interest you and try it somehow. Recycling takes a little of our time and effort. However, what's important is the big difference it can make to the environment.

Know that every time we pick a single littering waste and recycled it, Mother Earth smiles. If all of us can do our little share, we can contribute a big difference and save the environment before it's too late.

Thank you so much for your time reading this blog. See you soon. Sending my best regards and my big warm hugs!🤗🥰

Wow! paints made them all beautiful. Iba din talaga kapag may paint na kasi kapag wala parang di rin makikita ang beauty nya. We have some recycling too. Naku! makakahabol pa kaya ako. I'm quite busy pa but you did it well, keep it up.

Thank you so much @jenthoughts .. Aabot pa yan... Go, go, go...

My grandparents used to recycle bottles in similar ways, especially during the cold seasons but I'm happy to see so many options to consider from now on :)

Good to hear from you @gabrielatravels .... Thank you so much for your time reading and dropping this worthwhile comment. I do appreciate it much🥰

Wow! this is a wonderful way to keep all these materials out of our communities and water supplies like rivers and oceans. Awesome job!

We try our best to use glass and aluminum containers exclusively and no plastic bags, plates, utensils.

But unfortunately, not everyone thinks this way. By giving it use that others can see, you surely inspiring more people to do the same.

Thank you so much @alex-rourke 🥰,. That is very true, not every one of us thinks the same, but since I have been allowed to teach students in school, I took the opportunity to teach my students and encouraged them to do the same at home.🥰🤗

Yes very true @xanreo ....Nagagawa sa province kahit maraming lupain na matatamnan ...sana mautilize at maapply ng mga city households...
