Life in College so far

Hello Hive! Last year, if you saw my blog, was the start of the face to face classes after YEARS of Covid-19 lockdown. It was my last year as a senior student in highschool, and on June 3 this year, I finally graduated with an academic chievement of "with honor".

And just so you know, I passed the entrance exam of a prestigious state university here in Mindanao, and I was able to be enrolled in Bachelor in Secondary Education, Major in English, a course I chose myself.

This was during our enrollment. It was scorching hot outside but we needed to still wait in line, especially since Education courses have the most number of enrollees. After hours of waiting in line, I was able to secure a spot after passing the Teacher's Assessment Test and the personal interview, which I am really thankful of because where would I be now if I didn't pass? I have no back-up plans, no other courses that I'd like to study for 4 years or more.

I am deeply in love with the view. I love how the university is located in an almost remote place because everywhere, there are trees, and more trees means the temperature is way warm and comfortable. And the pond with actual Koi fish swimming in it? Just wow.

Fast forward to the first day of classes. Nothing major happened aside from the usual introduction of my coursemates and fellow freshmen. It was all good and dandy, still without the pressure of opening a new chapter of our lives that will determine where we will be in the future. Will we survive this course? What will be the struggles that we will be facing? No, we never thought of those yet. Instead, we were basking in the excitement of meeting new people and seeing a few familiar faces in the crowd and on hallways where people of diverse backgrounds intersect. We were just happy, excited, and hopeful, and hopefully, these emotions will last until the end.

During the rest of the week, we weren't given lots of assignments, and were given individual reporting tasks instead, which we actually like because we're gonna be future educators and these will be of great help to boost our self-esteem. Almost all the subjects gave us reporting tasks, some of which I had to report the very next week. Talk about busy!

One of the things our university is known of is having events almost every month during the first semester. Just 3 weeks after classes started, we had our College of Education day where educator students of different major fight for the ultimate overall champion in sports and literature. The picture above was taken on the first day of this event. We started to gather at 5am for our Zumba dance and exercises with an addition of colorful powder and lots of water, of which we call the Color Zumba.

We had many events during our COEd Day. We had sports like Soccer, Badminton, Basketball, Volleyball, Tennis, Running sports, and many more. I had the chance to join the soccer team but sadly, we never secured the top 3. But placing in 4th place actually is already an achievement for me and for us a whole, taking note of the fact that we just joined for fun.

We had more events after this like our KADTEGYA (what we call our foundation day) where we (College of Education) were announced as Overall Champions in all the categories including dance sports, sports (both minor and major), and beauty contest. And we actually just had our Victory party the other day.

During these events, I am fairly active. Academically, I think I struggled in coping up during classes when our instructors just 'instruct' us on what to do and what not to do, because after all, we are still trying to fit in in the environment. This is something that we felt like we can overcome, but in the meantime, we're just fairly lost. During these 3 months, we learned a lot: patience, endurance, perseverance, faith, and hope. And although the fear and countless doubts looming on top of our heads, that getting a grade lower than 2.5 is automatically suspended and having a ticket to shift to other courses, we are still very hopeful that we can make it till the end.

We can make this. Me and my now close friends and allies, we will survive this first semester.
