Goodbye to My Office Anchor

in Hive PH3 months ago

Today marks the end of an era in our little corner of the office. My friend, Vina, packed up her desk this afternoon, and I'm still processing the strange emptiness where her laugh used to fill the space between our cubicles.

For the past few months, Vina wasn't just my colleague – she was my work confidante, my lunch buddy, and the person who made even the most mundane Monday mornings bearable. She had this incredible ability to turn a stressful deadline into a collaborative adventure, complete with terrible coffee and even worse jokes that somehow made everything feel manageable.

I'll miss our spontaneous brainstorming sessions that started over shared frustration with a project and ended with us mapping out solutions on napkins. Vina had this gift for seeing possibilities where others saw problems, and she never hesitated to share that optimism with anyone who needed it. Her desk drawer was legendary – part snack stash, part office supply depot, part emotional support kit. Need a pen? Vina's got you. Having a rough day? She'd quietly slide a chocolate bar your way without making a big deal about it.

What strikes me most is how she made our workplace feel more human. In a world of endless emails and video calls, Vina remembered birthdays, checked in when someone seemed off, and celebrated the small wins that often go unnoticed. She turned colleagues into friends and made our team feel like a family.

The hardest part isn't just losing a great coworker – it's knowing that someone who brought so much light to our daily routine is moving on to new adventures. While I'm genuinely excited for her next chapter and the lucky team that gets to work with her, I can't help feeling a little selfish about wanting to keep her here.

Vina taught me that work relationships can be some of the most meaningful connections we make, precisely because they're built through shared challenges and small, everyday kindnesses. Our office won't be quite the same without her infectious energy and generous spirit.

Here's to Vina – may your new workplace appreciate the treasure they're gaining as much as we'll miss the one we're losing.
