As a resident of Bacolod city, I'm always in awe of the natural beauty that surrounds us. This is why I eagerly took the opportunity to take part in the coastal clean-up drive that took place on a bright Saturday morning at Purok Roma, Barangay Punta Taytay. In today's blog, I'll be sharing this rewarding and impactful experience with you.

Waking up on a Saturday morning may often be synonymous with a long, lazy day of leisure for many. But this was not the case for me this past weekend. This time, I was part of something larger, something nobler - the coastal clean up drive at Purok Roma Barangay Punta Taytay, Bacolod City.

The event started quite early at around 6 a.m. As the orange glow of dawn bathed the city, I could already see people starting to assemble at the designated spot, armed with trash bags, gloves, and an unparalleled determination to contribute towards the cause.

The coastal clean up was organized by a local environmental group, and as we marched down the dirt path towards the beach, the impact of human recklessness was apparent. The normally picturesque, sun-dappled shores were strewn with rubbish - bottles, cans, food wrappers, and a disturbing amount of plastic. This was an unpleasant but eye-opening sight, one that highlighted the sheer scale of the problem and how imperative such cleanup initiatives were.

Despite the mammoth task that lay ahead, nobody flinched. On the contrary, there was a unanimous feeling of commitment to restoring our beloved coast's natural beauty.

As the day wore on, the camaraderie among the volunteers became more profound. Residents of Purok Roma, students from nearby schools, employees from local companies - everyone worked in harmony, striving for a common cause. Young or old, man or woman, every participant brought their A-game, armed with unyielding spirits and tenacious wills to cleanse their coastal gem.

By late afternoon, as the heat gave way to a gentler climate, it was immensely satisfying to see the piles of trash bags standing tall. The sense of achievement was not merely individual; it was collective, as every person there contributed significantly to this change.

After several sweaty, gruelling but incredibly gratifying hours, our Saturday coastal cleanup drive drew to a close. Though physically drained, our spirits were charged with a sense of pride and accomplishment. We looked at the pristine coast, its charm now restored, and it was a beautiful sight to behold.

It was not just a coastal cleanup drive. It was an enlightening experience about human solidarity and an awareness drive for preserving the environment. I urge more residents to become a part of such initiatives and help us continue making a positive impact on our community.

This was my Saturday at Purok Roma Baranggay Punta Taytay, Bacolod City, and it has undeniably enriched me. Our coastal region isn't just a picturesque escape, but a home to various marine life that deserve respect and care.

Let's together create a healthier, cleaner environment for us and our future generations. Every helping hand, every little step counts towards making our world a better place to live.

As I close today's blog, I leave you with a heart filled with optimism. I look forward to seeing more of us Bacolodnon's come forward and partake in future clean-up drives and do our bit in preserving our beautiful city and beyond. After all, every litter bit helps.

Until the next cleanup drive, my friends! Let's remember to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
