A culmination that ended up into an intense Fight πŸ’ͺ

in Hive PH β€’ last year

Hello! πŸ‘‹ Hi! Mabuhay! How are you dear Hivers? I hope everyone's doing fine! ✨

It's been a hectic week and a busy day. We just finished the second quarter of the class in a year. Students here and there, asking for grades and compliances. Well, this is my job! And i love it πŸ’•

Apart from that, I tasked my creative writing class to hold a film showing of the project I let them made. So, keep reading! I'll share it to you. (winks)

MOVIE TITLE: BAKA SAKALI (MAYBE)

One of my final performances from my Creative Writing class is to produce a 30-minute movie clip. I discussed about "script writing" to them and realized they had an amazing output. So I tested their creativity by challenging them to produce a movie and will be shown to the whole school in a big crowd. Good thing they accepted my challenge.

The Day before the film showing

The students asked me if they could sell a ticket for admission. And I thought it was a great plan to arise the curiosity of the audience and at the same time, they could raise a fund. So, I personally create the layout ticket, printed and gave it to them. The rest of the works were shouldered by the students. I just waited for the results. They even prepared the room, projector, popcorn and everything needed.

Blockbuster, it was!

The queue was longer than we expected. The rooms were full. The tickets were sold out. It was indeed a successful one. After the showing, we had a meeting and decided to have a culmination as a celebration of our victory.

Culminating Day

The event started at 3:30 in the afternoon. The platform and the venue was all set by the students. The event was hosted by one student I selected. The flow of the program was also arranged by the students. Everything was prepared. They were all independent and reliable.

The goal of the culmination was to boost their confidence by showcasing their diverse talents. Confidence is one of the hardest fears to conquer. Some frightened the platforms, while others stuttered in front of the crowd. And as a teacher, it is part of my job to encourage them to go out from their shell.

THE SPOKEN POETS

There were selected five students to present their spoken poetry. Each of them prepared the piece and delivered it with emotions and feelings.

The first student's piece was about "moving on". It was about her life. She was married at the age of 15 and realized that what she has throughout the years were pain and heartbreaks. The second one piece was about his friends who betray him. It was also about his life that talked about the people he trusted so much. The third one was about standard. It was a strong message to the youth about acceptance. She elaborated how youth these days tried to fit in to the society. The fourth one about his father. She lost her father when she was still young. And she longed for a fatherly love and care. Most of the audience started to cry because it hurt when someone has never had the chance to dance with her father again. The last one about motivation. Each one of us needs motivation, may it be a person or a thing.

All spoken poetry pieces were pinned through our hearts. It was such a dramatic moment for all of us. And so, to enlighten the atmosphere, I asked the students to dance. (Intermission number)

Then the program continued. The next part of the program was singing. Since I had tasked them to compose their own songs, the music and beat were all fresh to our ears. The vibes were bright and positive. I just loved how they put all their efforts for this event.

Then, it was time for me to deliver a speech. I made an effort by also preparing a spoken poetry piece to express how happy and proud I am in their works. I told to not be afraid to be different and extraordinary. Some cried and some were silent. But I know deep in myself that they were moved.

It was such a meaningful afternoon.

It's getting late. Students from other classes were going home. So we proceeded to our unity song to remind us that a successful event came from a perfect plan and united ideas.

THE INTENSE FIGHT

To end our culmination, we ended up into an intense fight. Since we raised a little amount of money, we agreed to have a Budol fight to complete the celebration. Each one of us solicited a kind for this fight. Instant noodles, kilos or rice, a tray of eggs, pack of juice and pots for cooking.

Budol Fight is one of the Filipino culture in simple celebrations or small gatherings. It is a banquet in which we only use banana leaves as our plates and our bare hands instead of spoon.

Not to mention the people behind the food preparations and the overcooked (burnt) rice because of the rain 😁

It was a victory. We enjoyed the event so much and full our stomach from food and hearts with memories and experiences. We ate, laughed and shared together. Finally, it was time for us to go home. We cleared and kept all things used in the venue. We all bring smiles to home.

One fulfillment as a teacher is when we see that students are learning. The feeling is priceless. You will realize that all the stressful days were worth it after you see them doing the things you expected.
