It's been a long time since we experience that kind of typhoon. The last time we experienced it was when I was just a child and if I remember it correctly it was the typhoon Yoyong where the flood here in our place reached up to waist level plus strong winds also leaving no leaves to trees here.
That day it was exactly my day off, Sunday and our boss still insist to open the shop but they closed it earlier than the closing time since the weather gone really bad already. I'm just glad that my work mates got home safely.
Well I understand those business owners that not operating for one day can be a loss already but for the sake of safety they should consider not operating especially if the warning signal is in number 3 and above.
It may be calm at first but we don't know what will happen in the next seconds so it's better to be safe than sorry.
So that day we experienced extreme winds coming from the north direction and we knew that when it comes from the north it will be destructive as it was brought by the previous typhoons.
Well we can't do anything, we just watched, as it destroy trees near our houses. We're just glad that the mango tree beside our house didn't flinch a bit. Still standing until now without a broken branches but the fruit bearing tree that's standing next to it gave up.
We're inside the house monitoring things and my grandma called me, informed me that the roof in our dirty kitchen already taken away by the wind.
She didn't cry or what. She's calm all the way until the next day.
But I can see in her eyes that she worries for the house and for us. Yet she didn't show it during the happenings. What a brave woman.
After that strong wind from the north, we were shocked that it changed it's direction, that time it's blowing from east to south.
Followed by heavy rain plus the power supply got cut off already. We used the solar light from my aunt and I can say that it very useful when it comes to situations like that.
We expect flood to arise since we're just beside the river so as a preparation, our harvested rice was brought to safety inside the house. I know that it's not that high but atleast. Plus we don't have any higher place to place it.
Actually we have but the second floor of our house is already damaged so it can't contain the weight of the 17 cavans of rice weighing not more than 55 kilos.
Around 8:30 in the evening, the flood came and we just checked our pets if they're in the house and all present.
The next thing I did was to put them to safety.
Since our house is not concreted yet the water came in.
We stayed awake for the rest of the night because we don't know what might happen next.
My grandma already fell asleep on the hammok.
My father was busy outside checking things out.
Gladly that the water lever didn't rise more than that.
Morning came and here's the clearer view of our house.
I decided not to go to my work and it was approved by my boss.
The next day I didn't go also and that's the time it didn't go well on my part.
Well I had reasons and they can't help us to build the damaged part of our house in the first place and it's understandable that one day is not enough to fully fix it.
Sheesh.
My uncle from the nearby town came to help, together with my father, we fix the whole area since if we will only fix where the dirty kitchen is then the whole area is in a bad shape since the bamboos supporting the damaged part is connected to the whole area.
We decided to put the blue tent temporarily since the galvanized steel that's been there is not okay already. I'll buy a new set to cover the whole area.
We finished it on the second day and I'm so happy that night that despite all that things, I got to see the moon once again, bringing light to the darkest times.
This is so sad Jhero but good to hear on the other side that all of you are safe.
This year of 2024, natural disasters really hit the country a couple of times. And the sad part was, we can do nothing while watching 😞
