Enhancing the Existing for School Children, Part I

in Hive PH5 months ago

There are structures that already have existed several years ago. They have catered hundreds or even thousands of people who used them for comfort and for relaxation or even for amusement.

My dear co-Hivers, in this blog, I'll be talking about the school's concrete benches and my school project that will give shades to these benches.

So, come on and I'll show to you what I can do to enhance these concrete benches for the use of the school children.

Brief History

These old structures were used by the community as seats during different occasions in the barangay such as but not limited to fiesta, disco dancing, or even in cock fightings.

During those times, the barangay of Malingin didn't have a covered court for the different barangay affairs. It was also the time when the school didn't have perimeter fence and only very few classrooms.

So these concrete benches served the people of the locality for years. But, the barangay officials later realized to have another venue separate from this site. Later, perimeter fence was made to secure the school area in some ways.

The Enhancement

These benches need some retouch to make them safe and nice. But this time, the school is prioritizing the roof for the children to take shelter. These materials we are using are given to us by the office of the Vice Mayor of the City of Bogo, Cebu, Philippines, Ma'am Mayel, worths fifty thousand pesos. And for the labor charges for the workers, we used the school funds to realize the project.

Although we have very limited school funds, we still find some ways to realize what we plan. Our primary goal is to give our school children some comfort because it will protect them from rain or shine or during noon breaks. Another is during school programs. They are still protected while using the old concrete benches. This is another way of saying that we really care for them.

Beautification As Well

This old shed that's no longer safe due to the weakening pillars and already had become an eyesore in its area, should have to be demolished as shown here. This also paves the way for beautification.

We see to it that this project will complement the existing ones in order to add beauty to the school. This is not just to give shelter to the children, but it should harmonize with what we had just done, the covered pathway.

In fact, this will have Phase II that will be extended up to the side of the school stage. Then, maybe, if I'll still be in this school for the succeeding months, Phase II and further phases' implementation will be achieved up to the right wing of the school stage, hopefully.

I think I have to end here. Thank you for reading until this part. Thank you for your support. See you again in my next blog❤️.

I'm glad they are getting some shade!
Isn't it strange how one of the benches has crumbled a lot on the corner when the others look practically new? The stairs in my apartment building are like that, there is one crumbly step on each flight of stairs coming up, when all the other ones are fine. I don't know what is different about those individual steps that wears them out faster, like that one bench.

It's probably due to the ratio of cement to sand. If 2:1 ratio of sand to cement or 2 sacks of sand to one bag of cement is strong, meaning, 4:1 ratio or 4 sacks of sand to one bag of cement is weak. One factor that contributes why this sometimes happens, is the very limited budget. Or, the contractor wants more gain than the good outcome.

Or, it can be due to sea sand that is fresh is used rather than the river sand. That's what I heard from experienced masons or carpenters. Thank you @phoenixwren.

Wow! A big salute to you sir. A leader like you is worth emulating then. God bless

Thank you @teacherlynlyn. I still can recall when I thanked the former SDS for assigning me in this school. I told him that "I'm very happy that you assigned me in this school, Sir". He asked "why?" "Because I can do many things here, the way I see it." And he just smiled. Hehe.,. just a recap😊...
