First of all, I am glad that the earthquake did not directly affect you or your family. Nature strikes with its force and, as you say, it puts us in our place and reminds us how small we are and how important it is to make the most of every minute.
In my country, we don't have the custom of celebrating death anniversaries, funerals, or burials with food, so I always find it curious when I see it. I think it's a beautiful way to honour the absent person, sharing that time together remembering his life in an atmosphere of communion.
I am familiar with the custom of novenas, although here they are mainly held to celebrate the patron saints or virgins of towns, not individuals.
I see that inflation is high everywhere and I am sorry that you had to do without catering this year. It is natural that you ended up exhausted. But let me tell you that the food looks delicious and I love the presentation. You can be satisfied with the result of your efforts.
Let us continue to be grateful for life. I send you a big hug.

That's what I said to my family, event like this isn't celebrated mandatorily with lots of foods. For me, we can just offer prayers, that's it. But it has been a custom already. Thanks btw
