Portrait Pages #2: Drawing Rumi Demon

in Hive PH2 months ago
Everyone's talking about this character. If not from others, I wouldn't have known that this girl becomes a rising trend haha. I’m not the type to jump on trends. In fact, I don’t usually follow fandoms, and I’m not a big fan to anyone either. But when Rumi Demon from K-Pop Demon Hunters started showing up all over my social media, I got curious. And, I’ll admit it, I was tempted to draw her.

Who is she?

Rumi (voiced by Arden Cho with singing by Ejae) leads Huntr/x, a K‑pop group by day, demon‑slaying protectors by night. Her long purple braid, determined brown‑gold eyes, and elegant demon‑mark patterns make her visually striking and rich with story. She’s a half‑demon born from a demon hunter mother and a demon father, hidden from her groupmates until her powers reveal themselves onstage according to Sony Pictures Animation.

The film premiered on June 20, 2025 on Netflix and quickly became the platform’s most‑watched animated film ever, topping charts globally. Its soundtrack—featuring hit songs like “Golden” and “Takedown”—caught fire in real life too, with “Golden” debuting in the Billboard top 40 and the soundtrack peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard 200.(people.com)

Drawing Process

I started with a pencil sketch, trying to capture her confident stare and signature hairstyle. Then I layered in colored pencils, purple for the hair, warm skin tones, gold accents on her outfit. And actually, I am not really a good artist. And I really struggled on mixing the skin tone because I am using a color pencil even though I am not used to it. I kept the tattoos on her arm because they are symbolic (I guess?).

An even though the outcome of my drawing isn't that beautiful, but this is a piece I’m honestly proud of. Not because I’m a fan of Rumi, but because I challenged myself to interpret a character based on hype and visual impact alone.

You don’t always have to be a fan to create fan art. Sometimes, it’s okay to draw something just because it’s everywhere and you’re curious. That’s what happened here. I drew Rumi Demon as an observer.

P.S. If you've ever drawn something just because everyone else was talking about it, you’re not alone. Trend-inspired art doesn’t make you a follower, it makes you an artist reacting to the world around you.

And to anyone here who is a fan of Rumi, I hope you appreciated my art. Thanks for reading and have a nice day everyone.

Oh yeah, demon hunters are everywhere even until now. But I haven't watch it yet, just like you I don't jump on trend talaga. And if kelan lang maisipan, saka ko sila babalikan, like if they are not trending anymore hahaha. Anyways I thin you draw Rumi beautifully. Its amazing how similar it is to the real thing. Galingggf

Yeahh, I am not really fond of following trends because I still have priorities in life. By the way, thank you so much ma'am @ruffatotmeee for dropping by.

Demon Hunter is my current addiction.Your Rumi drawing really look like her.

Aww, I am flattered. Thank you so much @iciah!

You draw elegantly. I'm not into this character but when I see it now, I'm amazed hehe. Well, they are everywhere even my niece like this mind of anime perhaps because of the style or aura she has.
