The innocent can never last
Wake me up when September ends"

These lines are from the song "Wake Me Up When September Ends" by Green Day. Written by Billie Joe Armstrong, the song is rooted in his grief over losing his father to cancer in September 1982. After the funeral, the young Armstrong locked himself in his room and, through his tears, told his mother, “Wake me up when September ends.” For him, September became a month of sorrow, forever marked by loss. Writing this song was his way of honoring his father while breaking through the weight of his grief.
Although the lyrics were born from Armstrong’s personal story, they echo a universal truth: grief and loss come in many forms. And for us here in Cebu, September 2025 carved its own wound. In my previous blog, I shared how the 6.9 magnitude earthquake shook our lands. And it happened, painfully, at the end of September.

What began as an ordinary day quickly turned into one of the darkest nights of our lives. That morning, students were busy planning for Teachers’ Day so excited to celebrate our mentors and give them a well-deserved break. None of us realized that those plans would be interrupted, and that day would also be the last time we would ever set foot in our school (well, for now).
"The hardest part of calamity is not what it takes from us, but what it leaves us to remember."
On the night of September 30, Cebu was shaken by a 6.9 magnitude earthquake. The ground shake and the walls trembled. Families rushed out of their homes and there is a cry in every streets. In just a matter of seconds, what we thought was strong and secure crumbled before our eyes.
We woke up to aftershocks, to destroyed homes, and to lives forever changed. And just like Armstrong’s September, ours became a month of mourning. For those who buried their families and friends, September will never be the same again. It will always carry an unhealed scar.
But still, we hold on to faith that, with God’s guidance, healing will come. We cling to the belief that even when everything feels broken, life will rise again.

It was so saddening to see many victims and houses collapsed even the big establishments and buildings. Praying for everyone there.💗
Yes it is.
And there's still so many aftershocks even until now and some are really strong din. Nakakalungkot coz it create more panic to the people in Cebu. Keep safe everyone and stay alert ✨
Yes if I am not mistaken, there are already over 6000 aftershocks recorded so far (if I remembered it right).
