Is It Possible to Fall in Love with the Career You Never Expected to Pursue?
Hello, Hivers! It’s me again, Jera. Another Day, Another Blog. Allow me to share to you my teaching- internship journey and how I ended up in this career path. I hope you’ll come along with me😊.
As I think and reflect on how I got here, I can’t help but feel amaze at the twists and turns that life often throws our way. My initial love for journalism was rooted in a desire to inform and inspire others through the power of storytelling. But as I delved deeper into my education courses and began my practice teaching, I found that classroom also held its own stories- stories of resilience, curiosity, and growth.
Despite my ambition in journalism, the pull toward teaching became undeniable. When it came time to select my practice-teaching placement, I took a big step of faith and choose to immerse myself in the world of teaching. Little did I know that this decision would change my life in ways I couldn’t have imagined.
When I first embarked on my journey as an education student, I had my heart set on becoming a journalist. With dreams of reporting from the front lines and writing captivating stories, teaching was nowhere on my radar. Yet, here I am, knee-deep in my practice teaching journey, preparing to step into the classroom and realizing that I’ve developed a passion for education that I could have never anticipated.
Becoming a student-teacher has been both challenging and rewarding. In the first few days, I feel a mix of emotions, excitement and anxiety. Imagine, standing in front of a group of eager minds. Questions linger in my mind, could I really guide these students in their learning journey? Would they see me as more than just a “substitute” for their regular teacher🥹. There were days where I feel tired, exhausted, days filled with self-doubts and moments of frustration when things didn’t go as planned. But through these challenges, I discovered resilience and adaptability.
Surprisingly, it didn’t take long for me to build and feel a connection with my students. As I engage them in my discussions and watched their eyes light up as they grasped new concepts, then suddenly I just felt a sense of fulfillment that I never expected. Then I realized that I could weave my interest and integrate storytelling into my lesson, bringing literature and writing to life in a way that resonated them. Each day spent teaching allow me to dispel my doubts, bolting me into a realization that I could inspire just as I had hope to do as a journalist.
As my practice- teaching journey continues, I find myself loving and embracing the role of a teacher with an open heart and mind. I’ve learned that teaching is a journey of mutual growth, where teachers and students influence each other in significant ways. While journalism will always hold a very special place in my heart, I now realize that teaching offers unique ways to inspire and empower future generation.
So, before I end this blog of mine, I want to tell those who are unsure about their chosen paths or who may find themselves in unexpected roles, I encourage you to embrace the unknown. See, sometimes, the unexpected path we take lead us to the most satisfying and fulfilling destinations. My journey from journalism to teaching has been a beautiful revelation that has awakened my passion for education. And I am loving it so much! 💖💖
