The Scandinavian players got the victory thanks to a goal by Ilestedt from a set piece and a penalty converted by Angeldal. On the other hand, the Japanese missed a penalty kick in the final minutes, despite closing the gap on the scoreboard and having chances to equalize. Sweden will now face Spain for a place in the Women's World Cup final.
It is interesting to see how Sweden is progressing on their way to what could be their first World Cup title. They have managed to snatch away Japan's chance to repeat their 2011 success.
