El cubano es, por esencia, un ser deportivo. De hecho, para aludir a que no se enfoca mucho en los problemas o que no les hace mucho "zing", dice que él lo coge todo muy deportivo.
En su fraseología también abundan los términos deportivos. Así, además de no hacerle "swing" a las cosas, a alguien que se equivocó o no estuvo cerca de la verdad, le dice que "se fue con bola afuera". A diferencia de otros países, al cubano no le hacen falta condiciones extraordinarias para desarrollar sus dotes deportivas. Cualquier lugar le sirve.
En la actualidad, la categoría de deportes ha entendido sus límites más allá de los terrenos y áreas tradicionales, incluyendo en su nomenclatura juegos que simplemente han sido parte del entretenimiento popular o de los hobbies personales. Uno de esos juegos entretenidos es "el dominó".
Describir en Cuba en qué consiste ese juego es casi un absurdo. Es difícil que alguien de estas tierras de ultramar no haya participado alguna vez en su vida en este deporte de los llamados de mesa. Una fiesta familiar que se respete incluye un juego de dominó. Por lo tanto, ese pasatiempo siempre está acompañado de ron, cerveza y también del gracejo popular, con sus dicharachos y el modo de asociar (cantar) las fichas a nombres, lugares y cosas. Así, cada ficha es asociada jocosamente o humorísticamente, incluso a situaciones extra deportivas.
Da gusto estar cerca de un lugar donde se esté jugando una partida de dominó. Hay jugadores carismáticos que le ponen sabor criollo con su fraseología y alucines a los símiles con los números grabados en huequitos en las fichas, que tradicionalmente son de madera, pero que pueden ser de cualquier otro material sintético. Si el dominó realmente puede considerarse deporte, este sería entonces el segundo más practicado en la isla. En definitiva, más allá de las fiestas, hogares y solares, a esta modalidad deportiva le asiste el haber sido organizada en diferentes niveles, incluyendo el internacional.
Aunque mi verdadera pasión es el ajedrez, y al dominó lo veo como un juego sujeto al azar porque, en la práctica, el resultado no depende solo de uno mismo, sino también de tu compañero de juego, siempre que me acerco y soy tocado por la tentación del ambiente, termino imantado por el espíritu y la interacción tanto de los contrincantes como de los que rodean las mesas de juego.
Hoy fue uno de esos días en que, como parte de un grupo de WhatsApp que promociona productos con sabores a chocolate, me dejé atrapar por la convocatoria dominguera de compartir, con premios incluidos, unas cuantas rondas del juego de las 55 fichas en esta modalidad tradicional, y de otras cantidades en otras variantes del mismo juego.
Cuando el dominó se juega entre competidores que sean expertos o no, pero con el espíritu de divertirse y disfrutarlo desde el jaraneo criollo, es un verdadero antiestrés y un modo de ocupar una porción de nuestro tiempo en algo diferente a la rutina del día tras día. Como es habitual que las derrotas se justifiquen, me puse en la primera partida "perdí porque hace mucho tiempo que no jugaba".
La segunda la gané, pues seguro que hice las cosas correctamente y ya iba "entrando en caja". Y la tercera, si no llega a ser... jajaja, la hubiera ganado porque "la tenía en el saco".

Hay muchos, una gran cantidad de juegos de mesa, que podrían llamarse deportes, después de todo, no hay una definición taxativa para el significado de esa palabra que abarca una gran cantidad de actividades recreativas practicadas por los seres humanos.
Aquí en la Argentina, a miles de kilómetros de esas bellas islas caribeñas, el dominó también se jugaba en todas partes cuando yo era apenas un joven, luego la modernidad arrasó con este divertido juego como con muchos otros y ahora es casi solo un recuerdo, un divertimento apenas practicado por ancianos y nostálgicos.

Saludos, en Venezuela también se juega bastante dominó y constituye un momento para pasarla bien y socializar, siempre y cuando se sepa jugar y no solamente poner piedras, para no generar las infaltables discusiones entre compañeros.
