Como muchas veces ocurre en todo ámbito de la actividad humana, las personas y a través de ellas las instituciones, complican su vida con decisiones y actitudes cuestionables, malo cuando el transcurrir de su historia podría ser mucho más sencilla, solo disfrutando de las cosas buenas que se tienen.
Algo así podríamos decir de la entidad rectora del fútbol argentino, campeones del mundo vigentes y con un excelente presente en el que se ganó por amplia diferencia las siempre difíciles eliminatorias sudamericanas.
Pero la AFA representada por su presidente Claudio "Chiqui" Tapia prefiere los problemas, por ahora domésticos, aunque sabemos que cuando hay ruido, éste se propaga rápidamente y llega a todos los rincones de la tierra.
Hay desprolijidades, desmanejos financieros, hay problemas institucionales y hay irregularidades en los torneos. El club preferido del titular de la AFA, Barracas Central, ha sido beneficiado notablemente por los árbitros desde que llegó a la primera división, al menos así lo mencionan muchos periodistas, directores técnicos y hasta un ministro del gobierno ha mostrado estadísticas que lo demuestran claramente.
La última trapisonda fue la designación del club Rosario Central como campeón de 2025, decisión tomada entre gallos y medianoche que le da un título que hasta la tarde anterior no existía y, por supuesto, ningún club sabía que estaba disputando. Algunos dicen que fue un "mimo" para Ángel Di María. Innecesario, totalmente.
Muchos clubes pusieron el grito en el cielo y Estudiantes de la Plata tomó la posta, debía jugar con Central por los octavos de final del torneo de clausura y fue obligado a hacer un "pasillo" para que los jugadores del "campeón" recibieran un reconocimiento. De manera sorpresiva los jugadores de Estudiantes dieron la espalda a esa escena apenas aparecieron por el túnel los rosarinos. Estudiantes ganó ese partido.
Como si toda esta comedia no fuera suficiente, se habla de un "arreglo" en una disposición de la AFA respecto a la obligatoriedad del "pasillo", parece que el PDF que hace alusión a la misma y que tiene un par de años de antigüedad, fue "retocado" en los últimos días, algo que infringe la ley, de comprobarse, sería gravísimo.
Después del problema en el estadio de Rosario Central, Tapia actuó inmediatamente y suspendió al presidente de Estudiantes, el legendario Juan Sebastián Verón, por 6 meses y a los jugadores del "affaire" por 2 partidos a cumplir en el primer torneo oficial del próximo año.
El inefable presidente de la AFA continuó con sus provocaciones y se peleó con el gobierno criticando una publicación en redes sociales de Javier Milei que exhibía la camiseta de Estudiantes en una clara muestra de solidaridad y respaldo. Tapia no tuvo mejor idea que mencionar en un acto que los presidentes de la Nación pasan mientras que él ya ha visto 3 y seguirá liderando la asociación por mucho tiempo más.
Estas ínfulas de eternidad que nada condicen con una institución que debería ser democrática, están, si se quiere, apañadas por la FIFA, todos sabemos que la política no puede inmiscuirse con el fútbol so pena de desafiliación del país. En vísperas de la defensa del título de campeón del mundo, el gobierno sabe que tiene las manos atadas y Tapia aprovecha.
Para incrementar el morbo, anoche Estudiantes de la Plata le ganó el partido por cuartos de final a Central Córdoba y espera por el equipo favorito de Tapia: Barracas Central o Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata, su eterno rival que se enfrentarán mañana lunes, Alfred Hitchcock no podría haber escrito un argumento con más drama y misterio.
Tapia se cree eterno aunque sus desaguisados, principalmente los económicos y financieros, dejan pistas que algún fiscal podría verse tentado a investigar, allí veríamos si el largo brazo de la FIFA puede o quiere evitar un escándalo mayor. En Brasil no pudo o no quiso, recordemos que Ednaldo Rodrigues, presidente anterior de la Confederación Brasileña de Fútbol (CBF), fue destituido en mayo de 2025 por la Justicia de Río de Janeiro debido a irregularidades administrativas y acusaciones de falsificación de documentos (casualmente). La FIFA no intervino.
La AFA por ahora es un laberinto al que no se le encuentra salida, inconcebible en un país donde crecen racimos de futbolistas de primera calidad.

As often happens in every sphere of human activity, people, and through them institutions, complicate their lives with questionable decisions and attitudes—a sad state of affairs when their story could unfold much more simply, just enjoying the good things they have.
Something similar could be said of the governing body of Argentine football, the reigning world champions, currently enjoying an excellent run of form after winning the always difficult South American qualifiers by a wide margin.
But the AFA, represented by its president Claudio "Chiqui" Tapia, prefers problems, for now domestic, although we know that when there's noise, it spreads quickly and reaches every corner of the earth.
There are sloppiness issues, financial mismanagement, institutional problems, and irregularities in the tournaments. The AFA president's favorite club, Barracas Central, has been noticeably favored by referees since reaching the first division, at least according to many journalists, coaches, and even a government minister who has presented statistics that clearly demonstrate this.
The latest scandal was the designation of Rosario Central as the 2025 champion, a decision made in the dead of night that awarded them a title that didn't exist until the previous afternoon and, of course, no club knew they were competing for. Some say it was a "favor" for Ángel Di María. Completely unnecessary.
Many clubs protested vehemently, and Estudiantes de La Plata took up the mantle. They were scheduled to play Central in the round of 16 of the Clausura tournament and were forced to form a guard of honor for the "champion" players. Surprisingly, the Estudiantes players turned their backs on the Rosario players as soon as they emerged from the tunnel. Estudiantes won that match.
As if all this farce weren't enough, there's talk of a "fix" in an AFA regulation regarding the mandatory "guard of honor." Apparently, the PDF referring to this regulation, which is a couple of years old, was "tweaked" in recent days, something that violates the law and, if proven, would be extremely serious.
After the incident at Rosario Central's stadium, Tapia acted immediately and suspended the president of Estudiantes, the legendary Juan Sebastián Verón, for six months and the players involved in the "affair" for two matches, to be served in the first official tournament of next year.
The infamous AFA president continued his provocations and picked a fight with the government, criticizing a social media post by Javier Milei that displayed an Estudiantes jersey in a clear show of solidarity and support. Tapia thought it best to mention at an event that presidents of the nation come and go, while he has already seen three and will continue leading the association for much longer.
These delusions of grandeur, so incongruous with an institution that should be democratic, are, if you will, condoned by FIFA. We all know that politics cannot interfere with football under penalty of the country's expulsion. On the eve of the defense of their world championship title, the government knows its hands are tied, and Tapia is taking full advantage.
To heighten the intrigue, last night Estudiantes de La Plata defeated Central Córdoba in the quarterfinals and awaits Tapia's favorite team: Barracas Central or Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata, their eternal rival, who will face off tomorrow, Monday. Alfred Hitchcock couldn't have written a plot with more drama and mystery.
Tapia believes himself to be immortal, although his misdeeds, primarily economic and financial, leave clues that some prosecutor might be tempted to investigate. Then we would see if FIFA's long arm can, or wants to, prevent a bigger scandal. In Brazil, FIFA either couldn't or wouldn't intervene. It's worth remembering that Ednaldo Rodrigues, the previous president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), was removed from office in May 2025 by the Rio de Janeiro courts due to administrative irregularities and accusations of document forgery (coincidentally). FIFA didn't intervene.
The AFA, for now, is a labyrinth with no apparent way out, inconceivable in a country that produces a wealth of top-quality footballers.

En reiteradas ocasiones la AFA ha intentado y ha tenido más protagonismo que los propios jugadores algo que no debiera ser.
Otro elemento es que con la salud que tiene el fútbol argentino la entidad rectora del deporte debía ser directamente proporcional a los verdaderos héroes para que jugadores y asociación fueran el paradigma a seguir por los demás países, porque estamos hablando del campeón mundial y uno de los 4 países que tiene tres o más mundiales.
