Hay deportes en los cuáles la distinción en el color de la piel es evidente.
Otros, por el contrario, por su propia génesis humilde o por una cuestion de DNA en su país de origen, lo tienen generalmente asociado.
El último hecho bastante clamoroso lo hemos notado hace unos días atrás en un partido por la Champions League en el cuún un equipo turco (el Estambul) se retiró del campo de juego agraviado por la xenofobia de uno de los árbitros del encuentro.
Encontrar jugadores de piel oscura (o cualquier otro color alternativo al blanco) en el football (o fútbol como lo llamamos desde estas partes), en el basquetball (o basket), en el atletismo y especialmente en el boxeo parece que fuera la norma.
Sin embargo, encontrar deportistas con esos colores de piel en otras disciplinas parece ser la excepción.
A qué viene esta conclusión? Diría que, un poco es un tema que pensaba desarrollar desde hace tiempo, pero otro poco es un homenaje a Lewis Hamilton, múltiple campeón mundial de automobilismo (Fórmula 1) un verdadero fenómeno, al cuál me referiré en la última parte de este post (que hasta podríamos definir pomposamente como artículo).

Others, on the other hand, because of their own humble genesis or because of a question of DNA in their country of origin, are generally associated with it.
The last quite dazzling fact was noticed a few days ago in a Champions League match when a Turkish team (Istanbul) withdrew from the field of play, aggrieved by the xenophobia of one of the referees of the match.
Finding players with dark skin (or any other colour alternative to white) in football (or football as we call it from these parts), basketball, athletics and especially boxing seems to be the norm.
However, finding athletes with these skin colours in other disciplines seems to be the exception.
What is the reason for this conclusion? I would say that, to a certain extent, it is a subject that I had been thinking of developing for some time, but to a certain extent it is a tribute to Lewis Hamilton, multiple world champion of motor racing (Formula 1), a true phenomenon, to which I will refer in the last part of this post (which we could even pompously define as an article).

El primer deportista con estas características en uno de los deportes blancos por excelencia fue Tiger Woods, fenómeno por excelencia. Considerado uno de los golfistas más importantes de todos los tiempos, junto a Jack Nicklaus y Arnold Palmer, dos verdaderas leyendas. Con una infinidad de récords.
Un verdadero mix de razas. Su padre afroamericano con ascendencias china y amerindia y su madre de origen tailandés aunque con ascendencia china y holandesa.
Su presencia en el mundo del golf un deporte reservado (casi) exclusivamente a los blancos, revolucionó el juego y produjo más interés hacia el mismo.
Su participación no sólo contriubuyó a mejorar el nivel del golf sino que además desde el punto de vista del business tuvo un efecto (y un aumento) verdaderamente exponencial: por citar sólo un ejemplo, cuando ganó su primer major en abril de 1997 ganó aproximadamente USD 486.000, y cuando ganó el mismo torneo en el 2005, obtuvo USD 10.260.000. Woods terminó el año 2005 -según la revista Forbes- como el deportista mejor pagado del mundo, con 87 millones de dólares.
A fuerza de ser honesto en el relato es bueno decir que fue Robert Lee Elder uno de los protagonistas en la historia de la superación de la discriminación racial en Estados Unidos. El primer afroamericano en jugar el Masters de Augusta, allá por 1975, aunque nunca alcanzó el nivel de Tiger Woods.

A real mix of races. His African-American father with Chinese and Amerindian descent and his mother of Thai origin although with Chinese and Dutch descent.
His presence in the world of golf, a sport reserved (almost) exclusively for whites, revolutionised the game and produced more interest in it.
His participation not only contributed to improve the level of golf but also from a business point of view it had a truly exponential effect (and increase): to cite just one example, when he won his first major in April 1997 he earned approximately USD 486,000, and when he won the same tournament in 2005, he earned USD 10,260,000. Woods ended 2005 - according to Forbes magazine - as the highest paid sportsman in the world, with USD 87 million.
To be honest in the story, it is good to say that Robert Lee Elder was one of the protagonists in the history of overcoming racial discrimination in the United States. The first African-American to play the Augusta Masters, back in 1975, although he never reached the level of Tiger Woods.

El primer nombre famoso afroamericano asociado al tennis es sin lugar a dudas Arthur Ashe, el primer jugador negro que ganó Wimbledon.
Cuando en el año 1992 ya enfermo de VIH, un periodista le preguntó “¿Por qué Dios tiene que elegirte para esa enfermedad?” Arthur Ashe respondió con una frase contundente: “En el mundo 50.000.000 de chicos comienzan a jugar al tenis, 5.000.000 aprenden a jugarlo, 500.000 lo hacen en forma profesional, solo 50.000 acceden al circuito, 5.000 llegan a jugar un Grand Slam, 50 llegan a Wimbledon, cuatro a las semifinales, dos a la final. Cuando estaba levantando la copa después de haber ganado Wimbledon nunca le pregunté a Dios ‘¿Por qué a mí?’ Y hoy, con mi enfermedad, considero que tampoco debería preguntarle: ‘¿Por qué a mí?’.
Podría también nombrar a Yannick Noah, francés de padre camerunense. Su hijo juega en Los Angeles Clippers de la NBA.
Las hermanas Williams son un verdadero paradigma de este deporte. Serena y Venus han debido combatir durante toda su vida contra el racismo y la xenofobia demostrando una fuerza de voluntad extraordinaria.
Anécdotas personales cuentan que su padre las entrenaba intercalando insultos raciales entre una instrucción y otra, entre la corrección de un saque o un drive y otro.
Decía que era para forjarles el espíritu. Y para prepararlas para recorrer el camino que tenían delante.
Durante muchos años fueron las estrellas indiscutidas de este deporte en el sector femenino.

La última parte la quiero reservar a otro fenómeno del deporte que ha igualado y/o superado todos los récords del automobilismo deportivo en la Fórmula 1- Me refiero a Lewis Hamilton.
No hace mucho me referí a él en esta Comunidad en ocasión de ganar el Gran Premio de Emilia Romaña en Italia y adjudicarse de esta manera su séptimo título mundial en la Fórmula 1 igualando el récord de otra leyenda: Michael Schumacher.
En múltiples ocasiones ha manfiestado que combatirá el racismo durante toda su vida.
El británico (de ascendencia antillana por parte de su padre, nativo de la isla de Granada) tiene una tenacidad y una fuerza de voluntad dignas de encomio. Todo lo que se propone lo termina consiguiendo. Tesón, perseverancia en un lider carismático que cuando abraza una causa (deportiva o no) se dedica a ella en cuerpo y alma.
Se trate de una competencia deportiva o de una reivindicación política.
Hay muchos ejemplos más, miles tal vez. Sólo que no todos trascienden.
Si cada uno en su sector ha contribuìdo a enaltecer su deporte permitiendo que todas las personas asociadas a él ganen mucho más dinero que fines persiguen los que insultan y/o denigran una persona por el color de su piel?
El deporte ya desde la época del barón Pierre de Coubertein es considerado como uno de los mayores promotores de los valores éticos de nuestra sociedad.
Mantenerlos activos es responsabilidad de todos, trabajando desde todos los estamentos para lograr erradicar este tipo de conductas alrededor de los actos deportivos, nocivas, intolerables y hasta indignas de la condición humana.
I would like to reserve the last part for another sports phenomenon who has equalled and/or surpassed all the records of Formula 1 motor sport. I am referring to Lewis Hamilton.
Not long ago I referred to him in this Community on the occasion of winning the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Italy and thus winning his seventh Formula 1 world title by matching the record of another legend: Michael Schumacher.
On many occasions he has claimed that he will fight racism throughout his life.
The Briton (of West Indian descent on his father's side, a native of the island of Grenada) has a tenacity and willpower worthy of praise. Everything he sets out to do, he eventually achieves. Tenacity, perseverance in a charismatic leader who, when he embraces a cause (sporting or otherwise), dedicates himself to it body and soul.
Whether it is a sporting competition or a political claim.
There are many more examples, perhaps thousands. Only not all of them transcend.
If everyone in their sector has contributed to the enhancement of their sport by allowing all the people associated with it to earn much more money than those who insult and/or denigrate a person because of the colour of their skin?
Since the time of Baron Pierre de Coubertein, sport has been considered as one of the greatest promoters of ethical values in our society.
Keeping them active is everyone's responsibility, working from all levels to eradicate this type of behaviour around sporting acts, which are harmful, intolerable and even unworthy of the human condition.
Con el reciente suceso de la champions, creo que este tema es tan antiguo como despreciable, nadie es más ni menos que nadie según el color de su piel, una publicación excelente mi amigo
Gran artículo (sí, lo considero como tal) disfruté mucho leerlo. Quizás faltó incluir a la gimnasta Simone Biles, una chica que ya es considerada entre las mejores de todos los tiempos en su disciplina, al nadador Anthony Nesty de Suriname primer afrodescendiente medallista olímpico de oro en Seúl 1988. Particularmente pienso que el tema racial muchas veces lo exageran para dar una sensación que existe una lucha contra este flagelo y en otras oportunidades se valen de esto como una artimaña de juego.
