Enmarcados en la trigésimo segunda edición del máximo torneo de tenis en España, ha sido un grato comienzo para don Rafael Nadal, en su hábitat natural "la superficie de tierra batida" y luego de 45 días de inactividad por lesión; el histórico tenista español debuta con una victoria en el masters 1000 Mutua Madrid Ope. uno de los eventos más emblemáticos de ese país, en el que el mallorquín ha mostrado su clase en más de una ocasión. Esta vez le ha tocado un rival que vive un gran momento, como lo es el joven serbio Miomir Kecmanovic.

The young man born in Belgrade, represents at first sight a strong obstacle for any tennis player of the circuit; and in his last tournaments he has had outstanding participations, reaching the definitive stages, so much so that, in all the competitions in which he was present, he reached the eighth and quarterfinals; even in his native Serbia he reached the semifinals, being surpassed by Novak Djokovic. For these reasons, I visualized a duel of great level, between this 22 year old player and the most experienced champion of the Grand Slams.
Otro dato que tomé en cuenta, es que Miomir estuvo presente en la gira suramericana, en el Serbia Open y en Munich, lo que significa que cuaneta con 5 torneos sobre esta superficie; y a diferencia de Nadal, este apenas es su primer partido del año sobre arcilla. Así que todo comenzó con Rafa al servicio, mostrando un saque sólido y bien colocado; esa fue la primera fortaleza que mostró el balear; la segunda que visualicé fue su buen juego de pies, que le permitía cuadrarse en perfecto open stance "apertura de piernas para el swing", para ejecutar su derecha paralela e invertida.

This raised the level of the match, especially because Nadal also adjusted to the new rhythm of his opponent; improving his defense and continuously using his low slice as containment.
Fuentela resiliencia de Rafael volvía a hacerse presente, aguantando el tenaz ataque del serbio, volviendo a alargar los rallys, haciendo cambios de ritmo y de distancia. Así lo hizo incurrir en dos costosos errores no forzados (largos al fondo) y recuperó el break en el onceavo game. Miomir mostró su valentía, al seguir insistiendo con su juego a las esquinas y consigue un merecido break para conseguir "in extremis", la igualdad y forzar al desempate. Pero acá fue el servicio de Rafa, lo que determinó su victoria. marcador de 6 - 1 y 7 - 6(4), en 1 hora con 55 minutos.
Logra avanzar el gran Rafael Nadal, hasta los octavos de final, donde se medirá al belga David Goffin, un jugador experimentado con grandes virtudes sobre canchas lentas, pero que en los dos choques que ha ganado ante Rafa, han sido sobre pistas rápidas. Sin embargo, sigue representando un gran reto, para el jugador más dominante sobre el polvo de ladrillo europeo. Nadal se ha movido tan bien en la pista el día de hoy, que nos hace soñar con una nueva final, pero antes debe superar probables y eventuales choques ante Carlos Alcaraz y Novak Djokovic; algo muy dificil, pero no imposible para don Rafael Nadal Parera.
