En el pequeño Ullevaal Stadion, localizado en la ciudad de Oslo, Noruega, se disputó la final de la UEFA Champions League Femenina en su temporada 2025-2026; el actual mejor equipo de fútbol femenino del viejo continente, el FC Barcelona, buscaba obtener su 4.º título de dicha competición al disputar su sexta final de manera consecutiva, pero para poder alcanzar esa meta deberían superar a un gran obstáculo, las multicampeonas y poderosas económicamente OL Lyonnes. Esta sería la tercera ocasión en donde francesas y catalanas se ven en una final de la Champions League, lo cual significaría el desempate, ya que en la final del 2022, la victoria fue para las leonas y en el 2024 la victoria fue para las culés, pero más que definir el desempate entre ambos equipos, existía algo más y eso era generar el convencimiento de qué estilo realmente reina en el fútbol femenino europeo.

The 2025–2026 UEFA Women’s Champions League final was held at the small Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo, Norway; The current best women’s soccer team on the Old Continent, FC Barcelona, was seeking its fourth title in the competition as it played in its sixth consecutive final, but to achieve that goal, they would have to overcome a major obstacle: the multi-time champions and financially powerful OL Lyonnes. This would be the third time the French and Catalan teams have faced off in a Champions League final, which would serve as a decider, since in the 2022 final, victory went to the Lionesses, and in 2024, victory went to the Culés. But more than just settling the score between the two teams, there was something else at stake: establishing which style truly reigns supreme in European women’s football.
Al momento de confirmarse la final entre estos dos equipos, pensé que no podía haber un mejor enfrentamiento para cerrar la temporada en el fútbol femenino europeo y es que como sucede en el masculino, la inversión económica de manera poderosa influye en la creación de super equipos que posteriormente serán considerados como los grandes favoritos para obtener los títulos, ahora, del otro lado están muchos equipos femeninos que deben luchar en sobreponer y conformar equipos que puedan ser competivos desde su base de inferiores y confiando en jugadoras que forman un lazo muy fuerte con la institución para seguir hasta el final de sus carreras, uno de esos equipos es el FC Barcelona que por los muy conocidos problemas financieros, deben usar a su talentosa cantera para sobreponerse y así ser lo suficientemente competitivas y para ejemplo está lo que han hecho en los últimos años que a pesar de perder impresionantes jugadoras, han sabido sumar a otras y así dominar el torneo local y ser protagonistas en Europa.

When the final between these two teams was confirmed, I thought there couldn’t be a better matchup to close out the season in European women’s soccer. Just as in men’s soccer, financial investment has a powerful influence on the creation of superteams that are subsequently considered the heavy favorites to win titles. On the other hand, there are many women’s teams that must struggle to overcome challenges and build squads capable of competing from their youth ranks, relying on players who form a strong bond with the club to stay until the end of their careers. One such team is FC Barcelona, which, due to its well-known financial problems, must rely on its talented youth academy to overcome these challenges and remain competitive. A prime example is what they have achieved in recent years: despite losing impressive players, they have managed to bring in new talent, thereby dominating the domestic league and making their mark in Europe.
La gran relevancia de este encuentro es, como dije anteriormente, una representación sobre la lucha de estilos y, después de llevarse a cabo la final, podemos decir que fue emocionante y gratificante ver el esfuerzo entre las jugadoras que estuvieron en el campo de juego. La lucha en imponer primeramente fuerza y después estilo, es lo que pienso que definió a este encuentro; el primer tiempo, el Lyoness impuso su poderio físico intentando de cortar todo circuito del mediocampo culé, lo cual era lo más predecible porque de ahí proviene la fuerza actual del Barça; esa fuerza del club francés les hizo obtener un mayor porcentaje de posesión del balón lo cual les proveyó de ocasiones muy claras que fueron repelidas por la excelente actuación de Cata Coll portera del Barça, justamente esa actuación de Cata fue un impulsor para que sus compañeras pudieran aguantar el vendaval rival y poco a poco sentirse más cómoda en el juego y eso se convirtió en dos claras ocasiones que lamentablemente no pudo concretar Ewa Pajor, pero de igual manera demostró cierta debilidad de las leonas en el retroceso, lo cual ver, que el contraataque era el arma a usar para ganar el encuentro.

The battle to impose strength first and style second is what I believe defined this match; in the first half, Lyoness imposed their physical dominance by attempting to cut off all of Barça’s midfield play, which was the most predictable move because that is where Barça’s current strength lies; that strength of the French club allowed them to gain a higher percentage of ball possession, which provided them with very clear scoring opportunities that were thwarted by the excellent performance of Cata Coll, Barça’s goalkeeper; It was precisely Cata’s performance that gave her teammates the boost they needed to weather the opponent’s storm and gradually feel more comfortable in the game, leading to two clear chances that Ewa Pajor unfortunately couldn’t convert. However, this also exposed a certain weakness in the Lionesses’ defense, making it clear that the counterattack was the weapon to use to win the match.
El segundo tiempo fue una demostración de contundencia, efectividad y muy buen fútbol por parte del FC Barcelona; como dije anteriormente, el arma del contraataque fue fundamental para este equipo que vio cierta lentitud en su rival y eso lo aprovecharon las jugadoras rápidas que tiene el Barça, para demostración solo bastó la jugada del promer gol culé originada por un contraataque liderado por la extensa conducción del balón de Patricia Guijarro quien asistió a Ewa quien usando velocidad y precisión en la condición del balón se generó la oportunidad para anotar tan importante gol que en mi opinión derrumbó por completo al rival que no pudo reaccionar de manera rápida y lo cual conllevó al segundo gol, también anotado por Pajor después de una jugada rápida en dónde se involucró a muchas más jugadoras del Barça; después de eso apareció nuevamente Cata para cortar toda posibilidad de reacción por el rival, desmotivando a las francesas que de una posición privilegiada veían como Salma Paralluelo anotaba no solo uno, sino dos goles que cerraron el marcador y así ganar su cuarto título de la Champions League Femenina.

The second half was a display of power, efficiency, and excellent soccer by FC Barcelona; as I mentioned earlier, the counterattack was a key weapon for this team, which noticed a certain slowness in its opponent and took advantage of it through Barça’s speedy players. The play leading to the first goal was a perfect example: a counterattack initiated by Patricia Guijarro’s long run with the ball, who then assisted Ewa. Using her speed and precision with the ball, Ewa created the opportunity to score that crucial goal, which, in my opinion, completely demoralized the opponent—who couldn’t react quickly enough—and led to the second goal, also scored by Pajor after a quick play involving many more Barça players; after that, Cata appeared again to cut off any possibility of a reaction from the opponent, demoralizing the French players who, from a privileged position, watched as Salma Paralluelo scored not just one, but two goals that sealed the score and thus secured their fourth Women’s Champions League title.
En la actualidad existen equipos que usan a la humildad para generar una imagen de víctima o excusa para hacerse ver de que es difícil competir contra otros equipos económicamente poderosos y el Barça Femeni, que tiene una plena base de cantera y la seguirá teniendo por años, nunca ha usado esa imagen para ser competitivas, creo más bien que este equipo debe ser un modelo a seguir para muchos clubes hasta en España porque tanto en Alemania como en Inglaterra, el fútbol femenino vive de la formación de las jugadoras, el asunto está en que al aparecer organizaciones dispuesta a invertir gran cantidad de dinero (lo cual no está mal) vivirán de lo generado por otros y a pesar de ser válido, creo que el éxito en una gran competición posiblemente no sea algo que se obtenga por decreto, ya que como muchos dicen, "el estilo no se negocia" o, como declaró Cata Coll: "El dinero no lo es todo" y justamente creo que eso define esta final y el cuarto título de Champions para el Barça, un equipo formado por jóvenes, consagradas, de la cantera, de otras nacionalidades, pero que al final todas creen y practican un estilo de fútbol que genera cada vez más admiración y apoyo; ese es el otro gran título del póker obtenido por el equipo culé.

Today, there are teams that use humility to project an image of victimhood or as an excuse to claim that it’s difficult to compete against financially powerful teams. Barça Femeni, which has a robust youth academy and will continue to do so for years to come, has never used that image to gain a competitive edge. I believe, rather, that this team should serve as a role model for many clubs, even in Spain, because in both Germany and England, women’s soccer thrives on player development. The issue is that when organizations emerge willing to invest large sums of money (which isn’t a bad thing), they will rely on what others have built. And while that’s valid, I believe success in a major competition isn’t something that can be decreed, since, as many say, “style isn’t negotiable,” or, as Cata Coll stated: "Money isn’t everything," and I believe that’s precisely what defines this final and Barça’s fourth Champions League title—a team made up of young players, established stars, academy graduates, and players of other nationalities, but who, in the end, all believe in and practice a style of soccer that garners ever-increasing admiration and support; that is the other great title in the four-peat achieved by the Catalan team.
