I must admit, when visiting Alaior, we didn’t expect to see an air-raid shelter, and yet the town has five of them. The one we saw was built during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) to protect the population from aerial bombings. This network of underground tunnels served as a refuge for the locals during the attacks.
It just goes to show that vacations always have their surprises...
J'avoue qu'en visitant Alaior, nous ne nous attendions pas à voir un abri anti-aérien et, pourtant, la ville en compte 5.
Celui que nous avons vu a été construit pendant la guerre civile espagnole (1936-1939) pour protéger la population des bombardements aériens. Ce réseau de tunnels souterrains servait de refuge aux habitants lors des attaques.
Comme quoi les vacances réservent toujours des surprises...
