Welcome to Pokemon Type Swap!
In this series i will be taking classic pokemon and changing their type — creating a new, fresh look. I am currently picking pokemon in no particular order and choosing a type i think would fit. Comment any suggestions for future ones below.
Todays pokemon is Exploud, i have chosen to draw it as a Fire type.
Orginial Sketch & Outline
I didn’t change much on exploud apart from make the teeth and nails sharper. This was due to most of the changes being in the colour scheme and i was going to add smoke from the tubes similar to an exhaust which i didn’t end up adding at the end. I then redrew the outline for the final piece.
Colour & Shading
I chose a red and yellow colour scheme which ties in with the Fire typing. I then added shading to make the image less flat.
Background
I added a dirt/rocky background with warm tones to highlight that this is a hot area where fire type pokemon would be found. I then added a firebolt from Exploud’s mouth to add some extra details to the image. It was at this stage i decided against adding to smoke from the pipes/tubes that make up Exploud, although i could see it using the move ‘smokescreen’.
