I had been casually thinking about getting a 3D printer for a long time. It seemed like it could be fun, but I wasn’t really sure what I would make with it. Honestly, the only thing I could think of was a Bitcoin cookie cutter… 😅

At the beginning of this year, I heard about a jig for making chopsticks. I started experimenting with, and soon there were some parts I thought, “It would be great if I could make this with a 3D printer.” I also had the idea of making a cookie can filled with various cookies, and thought it would be fun to create cookie cutters as well.

When I looked for 3D printers, I found the compact entry model A1 mini from Bambu for under 200 euros, and I decided to buy it without hesitation. The total was just over 200 euros including two PLA Basic filaments!

The filament arrived a bit later than the printer, and I also realized I needed a microSD card and had to order one, so it took about three days from delivery to actually printing. But once everything was ready, the printing process was very smooth.

The Prusa machine I used during my residency in 2023 was much more challenging, so this felt surprisingly easy. I was happy, but also a bit surprised at how smoothly it worked.

Creating the data has also become much easier. I was recommended Autodesk Tinkercad, so I used it this time. I remember trying Blender before, spinning around in the interface, didn't know where I was and my object was ... and getting dizzy. Eventually I gave up 💦

My very first print with the Bambu A1 mini was a small part for a tool to make chopsticks. It’s a component used to hold a wooden stick in place while shaping it into chopsticks.

Next, I want to try making a replacement part for our shower head holder recently broke. I also want to create a piece that neatly holds a trash bag inside a bin… It’s funny, because I was just saying I didn’t know what to print.

By the way, I heard that there is a cookie cutter data maker. I will give it a try ☺️

Making things is really fun!

Tinkercad

Bambu A1 mini

Yes it's fun! I finally started using it ☺️

Have fun with that. I got the bigger A1 recently and have used it a lot. I have not got into designing things myself as there are so many in the library, but I want to do it. I have just tweaked a few models to my needs.

Nicee!! Been thinking to get this for a while now as well :)

Gosh it's amazing how cheap they are! What medium is the printed product, like where do you get it from? They are an utter mystery to me. It always worriese people print stupid shit bound for landfill too.. is it biodegradable?

Chopstick jig part in hand, now the real fun begins.
