Hello everyone
It's nice to be here in this community @diyhub this week and I hope you are all doing great as well as having a nice time out there. Today, I will be sharing with you the cutting and sewing process of a 6pieces skirt with two sides elastic waist band for a plus size using African print fabric.
We are to celebrate our 3year choir anniversary in church and we bought this particular fabric as a uniform for the celebration, as a seamstress amongst them, I'm to make different outfit for myself and others, starting with this, I'm to make a six piece skirt and blouse which I have not made before for a plus size but I had to try it out. I never knew there's a calculation for cutting this, I'm only used to cutting for slimmer people as I cut, unfortunately, I cut out the wrong size which was not what I was supposed to cut out until I went online to watch some videos before I could get the actual measurement.
Let me share the cutting and sewing process with you
For the center front, I folded the fabric in two using 12" on fold so when open, I have 24" for each panel and I marked the nipple to nipple measure down to the knee line before it was connected to the full length of the skirt, I added 3" to the top on the waist line for the band and it was cut out.
The center panel was placed on another folded fabric to cut out 4 pieces for the front and back sides
The center front panel was also used to cut out 2 pieces for the center back, all these pieces were placed on lining to cut out same shape and it was used to turn the main fabric for neat finishing.
I sew each piece of the center back to each of the side piece before it was turned with lining just as seen below.
The two back pieces were sewn together before it was sewn to the front piece with the side seam allowance.
Finally, I cut out 2 pieces of 1" elastic band measuring 8“ and it was sewn on both sides of the skirt at the dart leg and it was folded in by 2.5".
I never knew I could make this successfully but it came out really nice and beautiful, I hope you like the beautiful outcome.
