DIYHUB Important Changes + Winners of the 3 Witness Node Giveaway

in DIYHublast year
Authored by @tibfox

Before we get to the winner announcement of our witness node celebration giveaway we take a moment to give you some information about recent changes we made to our curation initiative and community. These are major changes affecting what kind of content we are going to curate in future and that improve the overall quality of our own DIYHUB Community here on HIVE.

We have changed

@DIYHUB was initially created to support knowhow transfer on the HIVE blockchain. But in the past year or more we have lost track of this ideal and started to support niches like photography, paitings and more. Of course everything you do on your own is considered as DIY but it became a bit overwhelming how many different genres we considered for our curation.

As the next big step we have decided to focus back on the D.I.Y. in DIYHUB and on content that transfers knowhow instead of showing „just“ a result. Also we want to exclude categories that are already well supported by other communities on HIVE like photography, art, music and cooking content. We already have planned to execute this change but the impulse to do it now came from our wish to apply for the OCD incubation program. We want to be aligned with their goals, requirements and the meaning of the program.

Our new set of curation categories (target niches) got a completely new structure. When it comes to crafting we have defined the categories more based on the practical regards like “Which material was used by the creator of the post?“. We hope to build up some good statistics and probably we will be able to generate a list of all hivers who have worked with metal in the past or others.

We also added a new basic requirement that we only curate content which shows a process or which is a tutorial. We will not curate content only showing the result anymore (like a finished origami crane). Our main focus is to reward people who share their knowledge by documenting the process or even go deeper and taking the time to write a tutorial on a specific topic. That's why we also kept art in the categories with one big difference: They have to be "real" tutorials (not only documented processes). A post like „how to draw a fish“ would be supported while „I have drawn a fish“ is not. Of course the situation is different for each post but in the art realm there should be a notable knowhow transfer through the post to get it valid for a curation.

We are going to host monthly contests in 2023 with different prompts and they will also have the basic requirement that the contest entries should be initiated as tutorials. Short or long does not matter so much but they should provide some knowledge for the viewer instead of only a nice drawn picture. More on the contests soon - we are still scouting for projects who are open to support us with the prize pool.

If you want to know our exact content requirements and target niches make sure to check this FAQ.

And if you have any question regarding these changes or anything else just leave us a comment under this post and we will get in contact with you!

And now the winner announcement for our giveaway!

The giveaway was a big success:

  • 31 commenting users mentioned at least 3 other hivers in their comment.
  • 36 reblogs where made.

The commenting users and reblogs do not intersect all the time so not everyone who commented got into the list of potential winners. Next time: Make sure to read the rules to not miss the chance of winning ;)
