Hola queridos amigos, espero que todos se encuentren muy bien. En este tutorial te comparto mi proceso creativo, paso a paso, para capturar la esencia de Mark Renton en un retrato que rinde homenaje a Trainspotting, una auténtica pieza de culto que este año celebra tres décadas de su estreno. Esta película no solo definió la estética de los años 90, sino que marcó profundamente a toda una generación con su cruda honestidad y su banda sonora inolvidable. Nothing could be more fitting for this drawing and its central theme than a shopping receipt, since the film is full of references to 90s consumerism, which was presented as a path to personal success. So I begin by sketching Mark Renton's face, as played by Ewan McGregor, using only a pencil.
Nada mejor para este dibujo y el protagonismo que una factura de compra, pues la película está llena de referencias al consumismo de los años 90, el cual se presentaba como una forma de alcanzar el éxito personal. Así que comienzo haciendo el rostro de Mark Renton interpretado por el Ewan McGregor, solamente con lápiz.

Then I was able to start making the strokes using a pen. Fortunately, I was able to buy a pen with a light ink, which works well for creating contrast. I start by covering the first strokes with this pen, and then I add more volume using a fine-tipped marker.
Así luego pude comenzar a hacer los trazos utilizando un bolígrafo, afortunadamente pude comprar un bolígrafo con una tinta que es algo clara, así me funciona para hacer contraste, de manera que comienzo con este bolígrafo a cubrir los primeros trazos y luego de eso le daré más volumen usando un marcador punta fina.

Then I started making strokes, filling in all the spaces. Mark Renton in the film is a heroin addict, so I had to make his face look like someone hooked on drugs, which is why doing it in black and white was the best decision. Starting at the edges of the face, I shaped it, working my way up to the top of the head.
Luego comencé a hacer trazos rellenando todos los espacios. Mark Renton en la película es un adicto a la heroína, así que debía hacer ese rostro como el de alguien que estaba enganchado a las drogas, por lo que hacerlo en blanco y negro fue la mejor decisión. Así por los bordes del rostro, voy dándole forma y así hasta llegar hasta la parte superior de la cabeza.

Finally, I refined the details inside the face, trying to solidify the expression in the eyes without losing its essence. After that, I used the darker ink marker to add more volume.
Para finalizar fui afinando detalles al interior del rostro, tratando de afianzar en el rostro esa linea de expresión en la mirada, sin que perdiera la esencia. Después de eso utilicé el marcador de tinta más oscura para darle más volumen.
What did you think of the ending? I really liked the result; it perfectly captured the film's slogan: "Choose life." Trainspotting had a sequel, released in 2016, and it's so interesting because you can see the change of era, but the existential problems seem to have the same root. This time it's not just a drawing; it's my recommendation that you watch the film. I hope you enjoyed it. Until next time!
¿Qué les ha parecido el final? me gustó mucho el resultado, quedó como el slogan de la película "Elige la vida". Trainspotting tuvo su segunda película, estrenada en el año 2016, y es tan interesante porque se puede ver el cambio de época, pero los problemas existenciales parecen tener la misma raíz. STOPYou’ve done a brilliant job. To begin with, the choice of using a receipt is very original and, as you rightly point out, it ties in with the film and the theme of consumerism. I think I saw it a very, very long time ago, though I haven’t seen the 2016 remake.
