Hello friends, today is March 8th, and in Western culture, it's commemorated as International Women's Day. It's a day that reminds us of women's historical struggles for their rights as human beings, rights that have been denied to them simply for being women. This date reminds us that even today, women suffer discrimination and abuse, and beyond gifts and other superficial things, I think it's a day to reflect on the changes our society needs. We must think every day about how equality should be a reality and not just a utopia. To commemorate this day, I've created a drawing highlighting the female figure, which has been present since ancient times, fighting for its space and recognition. I hope you like it.
Hola amigos, hoy es 8 de marzo, en la cultura occidental se conmemora como día Internacional de la mujer, es un día que nos recuerda las luchas históricas de las mujeres por sus derechos como personas, los cuales les han sido negados por el simple hecho de ser mujer. Esta fecha nos recuerda que aún en la actualidad, las mujeres sufren discriminación y atropellos, y más allá de los regalos y otras cuestiones superficiales pienso que es un día para reflexionar sobre los cambios que necesita nuestra sociedad. Debemos pensar cada día en que la igualdad debe ser un hecho y no una simple utopía, para conmemorar este día he realizado un dibujo realzando la figura femenina, que desde la antigüedad ha estado presente luchando por su espacio y reconocimiento, espero que les guste.

I was able to buy a new pad of black cardstock, which means I'll soon be doing lots of drawings to share. And today was the first one I used with this new pad. I didn't use a sketchbook; I just drew the lines directly, which will be the outline of the drawing and will help give it volume.
Pude comprar un nuevo block de cartulina negra, eso quiere decir que pronto haré muchos dibujos para compartir. Y hoy fue el primero para estrenar este nuevo block, no utilicé boceto más que dibujar directamente las líneas que serán el límite del dibujo y que ayudarán a dar volumen.

The silhouette of this lady isn't fully drawn but fades into shadow, with her back, neck, and face being the most visible parts. After outlining that area, I begin to add a little volume to part of her face using white pastel with very soft strokes.
La silueta de esta dama no está hecha por completo sino que se desvanece en la sombra, siendo la parte más visible su espalda y también parte de su cuello y rostro. Luego de delinear toda esa parte comienzo a darle volumen solo un poco a parte del rostro utilizando el color pastel blanco, con unos trazos muy suaves.

Then I go down the back, like a waterfall, adding white color, here I alternate between the white of wax and also the white of charcoal, two very different shades of color and also the texture.
Luego voy bajando por la espalda, como si fuera una cascada de agua, voy agregando color blanco, aquí voy alternando entre el color blanco de cera y también el blanco de carboncillo, dos tonos muy diferentes de color y también la textura.

Next, I began to use more white wax than charcoal. The reason is that the light reflects off the skin less sharply, meaning the texture of each part of the back is visible. Using the white wax gently, I achieved this effect. However, there are small areas in the drawing that require a more intense white, and that's where I apply white charcoal to enhance the highlighting on the skin. Conversely, the right side of the drawing, which fades into darkness, I paint with even softer, barely perceptible strokes. To refine the shadows, I use black, which further darkens the background.
Seguidamente fui imponiendo más el color blanco de cera que el carboncillo, la razón es porque el reflejo de la luz no es muy marcado sobre la piel, esto quiere decir que se puede observar el relieve en la espalda de cada parte, así que con el color blanco de cera utilizándolo suavemente se puede lograr ese efecto. Sin embargo hay pequeños puntos en el dibujo el cual si necesita que el color blanco sea más intenso, es ahí donde aplico el carboncillo blanco para lograr más ese efecto de iluminación sobre la piel. Por el contrario, el lado derecho del dibujo que se pierde en la oscuridad lo pinto con trazos a un más suaves, apenas perceptibles. Para hacer mejor las sombras utilizo el color negro, el cual puede oscurecer más el fondo.
What did you think of the ending? This drawing made me think a lot. One of the ideas that came to mind was the following paradox: The first deified human figure was woman. Since ancient times, she has been worshipped in many ways, and indeed, woman is the true creation. The paradox is that this cult of the female figure existed, yet women were treated very badly, valued no more than animals. Fortunately, thanks to their struggles and rebellious spirit, they have been able to overcome adversity and move forward. I hope that continues to happen, and that it always happens in the best way. I hope you liked my drawing, and to all the women of Hive, I wish you a beautiful day.
Qué les ha parecido el final? este dibujo me hizo reflexionar mucho, una de esas ideas que vino a mi mente fue la paradoja siguiente: La primera figura humana divinizada fue la mujer, desde la antiguedad fue adorada de muchas formas, y es que la mujer es la verdadera creación, lo paradójico es que existiera ese culto a la figura femenina pero se tratar amuy mal a las mujeres, las cuales tenían el mismo valor que una bestia. Afortunadamente, gracias a sus luchas y espíritu rebelde, han sabido sobreponerse y salir adelante, yo espero que eso siga sucediendo, y que sea siempre de la mejor manera. Espero que les haya gustado mi dibujo, y a todas las mujeres de Hive, les deseo un hermoso día.

What beautiful work you have done today, and I love how it looks with the black cardstock and white pencil, something totally different from the usual and what one dreams of seeing, great idea! But you also bring us a beautiful reflection on women, and you are absolutely right. Even today, despite advances, women are often discriminated against, and in many cultures, strongly so.
