Hello dear friends of DiyHub, I hope you are all doing well. For some time now, I've been reading some poems and poets, and among them I found something by Lord Byron that I liked. It says: "When age cools the blood and pleasures are things of the past, the dearest memory remains the last, and our sweetest recollection, that of the first kiss." I found it to be a wonderful line, very inspiring, and it was these words that helped me decide what to draw, so I drew two lovers kissing. I did this drawing with colored pencils. To show you my technique, I'll show you the step-by-step process and also a short video for you to observe closely. I hope you like it.
Hola queridos amigos de DiyHub espero que se encuentren muy bien, hace algún tiempo he estado leyendo algunos poemas y poetas, y entre esos encontré algo de Lord Byron que me gusto, y dice así: "Cuando la edad enfría la sangre y los placeres son cosas del pasado, el recuerdo más querido sigue siendo el último, y nuestra evocación más dulce, la del primer beso" Me pareció una línea genial, muy inspiradora, y fueron estas palabras las que me ayudaron a pensar en que dibujar, así que dibujé el beso de dos amantes. Este dibujo lo he realizado con lápices de colores, para mostrar mi técnica les muestro el paso a paso y también un video corto para que lo observen con detenimiento, espero que les guste.

I prepared the paper, a piece of watercolor paper. I like it because the color looks great on it, especially when I use oil paint for blending. I made the sketch in pencil and then started painting the areas where there were light reflections with white paint. Next, I applied a base of very soft pastel cream, which will serve as the first layer.
Preparé el papel, un trozo de cartulina para acuarela, me gusta porque el color se ve muy bien en ella, especialmente cuando uso aceite para mezclar, hice el boceto con lápiz y luego de eso comencé a pintar con el color blanco las zonas donde había reflejos de luz. Seguidamente puse una base de color crema pastel muy suave el cual servirá como la primera capa.

After the first layer, I use the following tones to add depth to the skin. The boy is on the left and the girl on the right. Here you can see how the contrast gradually becomes more visible on the nose. Once the tone is achieved, it must be maintained throughout the rest of the drawing, except for the areas that need shading. This is how I work on the lips.
Después de la primera capa con los siguientes tonos le voy dando profundidad a la piel, a la izquierda se encuentra el chico y a la derecha la chica. Aquí pueden ver como poco a poco el contraste es más visible en la nariz, una vez se ha logrado el tono hay que mantenerlo en el resto del dibujo, excepto por los lugares onde hay que sombrear, así pueden ver como voy haciendo los labios.

Following the same principle, I begin painting the girl's face, which, for obvious reasons, is more delicate. So, I try to make the first layer of color, the base, very soft, barely perceptible, and then add more tones from there. I want it to be a gradient that allows me to give it volume as the color progresses. I start, just like before, by painting the nose.
Con la misma sintonía comienzo a pintar el rostro de la chica, el cual por obvias razoes es más delicado, así que trato de que en la primera capa de color, la base, sea muy suave, apenas perceptible, y así agregar más tonos a partir de este, quiero que sea una degradación que me permita darle volumen a medida que el color avanza. Comienzo igual que el anterior, por pintar la nariz.

Next, I add more layers of color, and as with the previous face, the contrast gradually makes the volume more visible. Adding layer upon layer allows me to achieve the skin tone and texture, one of the most difficult things to do with colored pencils. I also add the first layers of color to the lips.
Seguidamente voy agregando más capas de colores y como en el rostro anterior, poco a poco el contraste hace que el volumen sea más visible, agregar capa sobre capa permite alcanzar el tono de la piel y su textura, una de las cosas más difíciles de hacer con lápices de colores. También voy agregando las primeras capas de color en los labios.

Then I add slightly darker tones to create better contrast on the lips, which shouldn't look flat but rather give the impression of being moist. So I play with the colors, and when the shadows are very pronounced, I use the darkest brown. The shadow of her eyes and eyelashes is barely visible on the upper part of her face. To better blend the skin tones, I soften the colors on both faces with a soft brush. Finally, I paint the empty space between the two faces, and that's how it's finished.
Luego voy agregando tonos un poco más oscuros para poder hacer un mejor contraste en los labios, los cuales no deben quedar planos, sino dar la sensación de que se encuentran húmedos. Así que voy jugando con los colores y cuando en las sombras son muy evidentes ahí utilizo el color café más oscuro. En la parte superior del rostro es apenas visible la sombra de su ojos y sus pestañas, para hacer una mejor mezcla de los colores de la piel, a ambos rostros los voy difuminando con un pincel suave, por último pinto el espacio vacio entre ambos rostros y así quedó finalizado.
What do you think of the result? I tried my best to make the drawing as realistic as possible; however, I don't really like how realistic it looks, since I feel that the true essence is showing and expressing ideas, not just form for form's sake. Poetry inspires me a lot, and it's another hobby I enjoy cultivating as part of my reading. I hope you liked my work. For now, I'll say goodbye, and see you soon!
¿Qué les ha parecido el resultado? traté por todos los medios de hacer el dibujo d ela forma más realista posible, sin embargo, no me gusta mucho que se vea tan realista, ya que siento que la esencia verdadera es mostrar y expresar las ideas, y no solo la forma por las formas. La poesía me inspira mucho, y es otra de las aficiones que más me gusta cultivar como parte de la lectura. Espero les haya gustado mi trabajo, por ahora me despido y será hasta pronto!
