My Prototype Poultry Feeder

in DIYHub4 days ago

My third entry for the #haraweek. As an #AgricEngineer, I was taught how to help #farmers with #SimpleMachines and #equipment that can help reduce cost and wastage. So I would love that we journey together on a very simple #diy on how to make a #PoultryFeeder that is cheap, #economical, and helps to conserve poultry feed while reducing waste.

This #feeder is easy to build and very affordable. It helps to prevent #feedwastage, keeps the feed safe from water and dirt, and allows a steady and controlled flow of feed. It is perfect for small and #mediumPoultryFarmers who want something simple and effective.

Materials used

A lid cover of the paint rubber as the base

PVC pipe 3 inches wide and 5inches long

A small plastic cone (slightly smaller than the PVC pipe)

Strong adhesive or gum (4 minutes gum)

Cutter

A top cover or lid

Steps

I use the lid cover of the paint rubber as the base of your feeder. This is where the feed will spread out for the birds to eat.

Thereafter, I Cut the PVC pipe to 5inch height. Then, make small holes around the lower part of the pipe. These holes will let the feed flow gently down to the base. I further placed the #PVCpipe on top of the cone and glue it firmly. Make sure the holes are just below close to the base so feed can easily pass through.

!

I then Glue the cone shaped plastic to the center of the base. The cone should be slightly smaller than the PVC pipe. The cone will helps to regulate the flow of feed. It also prevents feed from getting stuck inside the pipe by redirecting it to the sides for smooth flow.

Fit the paint rubber lid onto the PVC pipe. This acts as the main feed container where I pour the feed.

I Use an off cut from the PVC pipe and a condemned disc as cover to protect the feed from water, dirt, and contamination. This also prevents birds from entering or scattering the feed.

Finally , I tested it to confirm it's flow rate and came it out lovely. .
Note: that you can apply this method for your poultry feeder
