The Approach Of Planting My Tomatoes Seedlings & Okro Seeds In My Garden

in DIYHub2 years ago

I have once shared tutorials on how to practice tomatoes garden from the onset of nursing to harvesting, thus plucking of the tomato fruits. So I wouldn't want to go into details on that. You should I agree with me that growing vegetables crops is one of my hobby and I'm very passionate growing them not only tomatoes and Okro.

My own self in the camera

Let me take you through the tomatoes first so that I finish with the Okro. So, the tomatoes seedlings had overgrown more than 3 weeks ultimatum time for transplanting has lapsed. But due to the difficult of getting some good area or place to cultivate them that's why I've left them on the nursery bed. I didn't actually measure the height but the growth would be about 15cm tall. I was lucky to experience heavy rain last night that boost my morale to transplant the tomatoes seedlings. Well, the best approach of transplanting seedlings which very tender like tomatoes is by transplanting them during the evening when the Sun is about to set. But if the weather is cool all the day, this wouldn't be a problem at all. The weather had been cooled these days coupling with the downpour. So, I decided to plant them in the morning so that it would pave way for me to do other work.

The overgrown tomatoes in view

I planned growing for subsistent use but not for sale. So the tomatoes plant will occupy very small area so that I can control the weeds and taking care of certain agronomic practices like pest and disease control and fertilizing. The tools to use is my cutlass and water but since the ground is already wet this isn't important for today.

The process, step by step approach

First was to dig the soil with my cutlass. This was like small round ridges for the plants to grow fast. I finished making all the round ridges down and created some holes in each of them. In total they were about 20.

some of the rounded ridges I dug for planting my tomatoes

After digging the ground, I began sowing the tomatoes seedlings directly into the round ridges. Each hole was sown with 2 seedlings. The ground look very wet and I decided not to water them till the next day.

The base soil of the tomatoes wasn't removed. This was intended left at the base of the root to support the tomatoes seedlings. I inserted the tomatoes seedlings gently into the soil and covered the base. I made sure to cover them the base well and pressed on the base.

Planting of my Okro

Okro planting is mostly done at stake; that's planting directly into the soil. It isn't like the tomatoes where we need to nurture the seeds on the nursery beds before they are transplanted. I decided to plant only few of the seeds. Pair each hole, I used only 2 seeds. Very soon I was able to finish the work when it was 9 am. I'm waiting for the germination of the okro. The tomatoes too would be monitored till harvesting.
