My woven Mandala wall hanging

in DIYHub16 days ago

Hello everyone, hope we're all having a great day.

A mandala is a symbol of the universe in its ideal form, and its creation signifies the transformation of a universe of suffering into one of joy. It can also be used as an aid to meditation, helping the meditator to envision how to achieve the perfect self.
The word mandala means different things to different religions and different cultures.

This was actually my first time of learning mandala weaving, I thought it was just all about the paper designs of different patterns.

Materials used for mandala weaving are:
Canes(flexible sticks)
Wool, that's all you need for your weaving, the contrast and brightness of the wools you use is very important.

For me I wanted to use this three colours which are popular in my ethnicity, this is the colour of our traditional and sacred cap(even though now people who aren't supposed to wear it,wear it like its a regular face cap).

Here I put my canes together (you mustn't use the same number of canes, you can use more than, depending on how intricate you want your design to be).
Then I started binding them together with my wool, one colour after the other.
It took me so many trials to eventually get to this stage, the tying of the rope round the cane shoild go in one direction to get a good work.

Here at this stage,i made the weaving tight in other to bend the cane to a certain level, sometimes the beauty of this art is more pronounced when there's a curve, when its flat its not as beautiful as the curved one but you shouldn't let it curve so much so it doesn't look like a pot 😅

When I got to this stage I had to take a break and come back the next day, producing a mandala weaving isn't hard,it also doesn't take much effort, you just have to calm down so you can have a neat and nice work

This is what it looks like under, this side faces the wall

And this is the side that everyone sees,it has to finer than the other side.

I wasn't able to take brighter and better pictures of this work, please pardon my picture quality 🙏
