Essentials: A Spice Rack and a Splashback!

in DIYHublast year

We have been working so bloody hard on this camperbuild we're nearly at the end of our tether. We're both grumpy but pushing through! If you missed my post earlier in the week, here's the final result of the aesthetic build at least, sans curtains, which are coming.

Jamie nearly threw a spanner at me when I asked him to build me a spice rack. I cook good food and spices are important. A few tears later, he got to it. Honestly, he is so sick of building things! It was great to use up some draw sides from that dresser we broke up - you can see the top from that against the door in a photo below.

I hate messy camping cupboards - everything has to be in it's place. So I am SO happy with the rack - you'll notice the belt as a pull tab that's also used on the table and the door handle to tie the theme together.

Next, we finally made use of the copper from our old hot water service! I had my doubts but it came up BEAUTIFULLY. It was simply a matter of cutting, sanding, and polishing. I'm thrilled with the look. The best thing is it hardly cost us anything - only the small bit of ply which was a left over piece anyway. 4x4 equipment such as rear door tables can be really expensive.

It also serves to break up the pine wall and ceiling too, so I'm super thrilled with it. What do you think?

I love how the folds in the metal or the marks on this piece remain - Jamie didn't bother sanding them out and it does add some gorgeous detail, don't you think? And if you missed it in the last post, you'll notice the lovely wooden tabletop which was from a dresser we found at the dump. Honestly it's almost impossible to get hardwood these days so it's a really lovely feature to offset the ply.

It does make us laugh that the strategically placed ax makes us look super hipster, but one NEEDS an ax when one is camping. We've also packed a hammock, of course... also a necessity.

You may notice that there are some essential pieces missing - the stove, for example. That'll be stored in under tub/chassis storage below, along with the chainsaw, oils and other stuff that I don't really want to keep in the camper.

JAmie still has the 12v to set up and the 50L water tank (that's right at the rear, but it'll have an outside filler and tap). He also has the head to do.

Bring on the end of this project, we say. We're proud of our efforts but also super tired.

What do you think of our aesthetic details?

With Love,

It's really coming along. ALMOST DONE!

Thanks mate! A few finishing touches, the water tank, 12 v system, two pull out under chassis drawers, new head and Cooling system... Close!

This is the coolest camperbuild I've ever seen!
Anything with some custom carpentry, repurposed copper, and some axes gets a thumbs up from me! 👍
Awesome work @riverflows! Can't wait to see more, thanks for sharing with us!

You're welcome and thanks sooo much! We have done all sorts of live in vehicles over the years but this is my favourite for sure!

Nah, this has to be one of the coolest camperbuild that I've seen, not that I've seen much tho 😅, still this is brilliant.

If you ever want a rommie hmu 😁

Greetings from DIYHub. Thanks for your support and sharing with us your DIY projects. We are coming up with a new series where we would like to interview our fellow members. You are one of the fellow members in the list. If you accept our interview invitation, please kindly drop us a message in our Discord. We will get in touch with you there.

I love the copper details, and it will get a lovely patina over time. I also like the leather pull tabs. You guys are like my husband and I. This house was built in 3 parts over 40 years, much bigger projects, but requiring the same cooperation to get them done. And we had the same issues to work through...

Teamwork is dreamwork, as they say! I bet you miss him pottering about on projects or hobbitising as @thebigsweed would say.

I love the copper too!

More than I can say....

It's coming along nicely. Wish I have my license so I could get a van, sadly I'm priced out of learning now. But can drive so once the shit hits the fan I'll be right haha

Oh gosh, there's VW vans EVERYWHERE in the UK! And they are way more expensive than they were ten years ago, even accounting for reasonable inflation!

Prices are insane here now. Just his driving lesson is £60 an hour for a minimum of five to start. I have a good job above the average wage and it's getting tight. But the change is coming 🙏🏽

Great job, they are details that give life and much more if they are made with our own hands. It was very nice, I love it. Soon and little by little you will be able to make more things to embellish your cozy space. Congratulations, success and thank you for sharing your creative process with us...

Greetings @riverflows

!PIZZA

Thanks very much. Yeah, the longer you live in these spaces the more lovely they get as you add things to make it so.

This is a really beautiful DIY, I can totally feel how tired you and Jamie must be but then, you guys did a totally impressive job, my greetings to Jamie for a work well done and please don't make him throw a spanner at you again, lolz.

You guys should have a great time at the camp, I hope to get more details of how the camp went, hehe.
