When we moved into this place, it HAD laundry, but it wasn't even good enough to put in the real estate photos and we removed it, including the walls, in favour of having more space, or at least the illusion of it. After removing the walls, two cupboards, sanding the floors and painting the walls, we ended up with an open space and the washing machine and fridge against the side wall opposite the kitchen.
The plan was always to put the washing machine in cupboards, even though it's not really the done thing in Australia. In fact, Aussie regs say you're meant to have a separate laundry sink and the floor waterproofed. Blah blah blah. This is our house so we will do what the fuck we want. Like this:

That's the view from the kitchen sink. No way were we putting TWO sinks in that space. I mean, if we go to sell one day and are forced to, we can still put a sink there.
The cabinets are from IKEA and the bemchtop is from Bunnings, coated with Fiddes hard wax oil. I bloody LOVE it. And suddenly I have TONS more storage space. Yay.

I put the prints of two of our favourite landscapes... A sketch of part of our coastline and a photo of Glastonbury Tor.

The washing machine sits in the centre cupboards. We had to cut down an 800 mm cupboard to 700 mm and get a 300 mm and a 400 mm door so that the drawers, the washing machine cupboard and the 'sink' cupboard all fit in a row. By the way, how nice is that winter light?

Most of the cleaning stuff is kept in the bathroom where I have heaps of cupboard space. But in the right hand cupboard I can fit the laundry sheets (I use these instead of powder or liquid - less mess and better for environment) and a collapsible laundry basket and another laundry basket. So I do feel I have enough room for everything in my micro laundry! If I need to soak things they can go into the bathroom sink or a bucket in the bath/shower or on the deck. It works for us!
Isn't it beautiful with the winter light coming in?

Who needs a huge laundry 🧺, right??

Looks amazing. You would never know it is a laundry area at first look. Just love those floors.
Aren't it beautiful? They were hard work but came up so Nice 🙂🙂
That looks AMAZING!!!! ❤️
Ah and you're the only Hive person that has seen it IRL!
That was a cool idea! And much more attractive than a machine sitting out. Love your winter light from the window.
It's gorgeous in the morning with the light.. and in the summer it stays outside where it belongs!
I think it looks a lot neater, especially since you have the open kitchen. And I imagine it would be a tad quieter during the spin if you keep the cupboard doors closed. The only thing with the doors, do they flip open 180 degrees to make it less restricted loading and unloading the laundry? We have the wall on the right side of our washing machine, and the machine door hinge on the left, I always feel cornered in when I load the machine.
Love you have the best of both worlds in the prints!
And you know the significance of the Tor to us...
Haven't found the doors and issue in slightest. Perhaps they are far enough out and side to not be a hindrance? And don't mind the noise... It's a fairly quiet machine and we only run middle of day when we are busy anyway, to take advantage of the solar.
Your house is really shaping up beautifully! I love the laundry set up, right where it's easy to do. I love the winter light! Who wouldn't?
So happy!!!
oh, it's perfect! 😍
Looks like a whole new piece. I love how you renew and finish the house so beautifully.
The “finally finished the laundry” moment hits differently for sure and really relatable. Glad you're able to renovate the space.
