Hello to everyone in this community, craft lovers, and pet lovers! Lately, I've been immersed in my sewing projects, mostly making pieces from scratch to increase the stock of my online shop Suecitos. Although I confess I have many items waiting to be repaired (I don't like doing repairs). Luckily, they're all mine or my family's, so there's no rush 😆 But, my mother came to me with an unexpected repair request from her boss, who wanted me to mend the harness of her beloved pet, a cute Poodle. I wasn't going to post about it, but since I basically made it from scratch, I thought it would be helpful as a guide for anyone who wants to try making pet accessories.
Okay, let's talk about the base harness. When it was delivered to me, I realized there wasn't much, if anything, that could be done, at least not with the fabric, since both the outer and inner pieces were in bad shape. On the other hand, the straps and buckles were functional. In cases like these, it's better to buy a new accessory, haha, but since they asked me to fix it, I did what the client requested 😌

Once I disassembled the harness, I used it as a pattern and cut out two pieces: one in a print and the other in a solid color; I also cut some strips to make bias tape, because I cut the pieces flush (without seam allowance).

The first thing I did was sew both pieces all around the edge, leaving one of the original harness pieces (the one in better condition) in the middle to give it rigidity, since the fabrics I had were not very thick.
After joining the strips and ironing them to form the bias tape, I proceeded to sew it around the piece.

Once that was done, all that was left was to attach the ribbons with the clasps. I had thought about recycling the ones I had taken from the harness, but the client didn't like the combination with the pink fabric, so I discarded the idea. Luckily, I had some black ribbon that I had recycled from other projects, so I attached it as it was on the harness.

First I sewed a strip in the center of the piece, where I placed the rings where the strap and my brand label would go, making a couple of extra stitches so that the rings wouldn't move.
Then, I sewed the straps with the snaps, making sure they matched the others, and that's how the harness was finished ✨

In this case, the project was quite simple because I had the example harness (and now I have the pattern). But if you don't have one, you can easily make it using your pet's measurements with some tutorials or by buying patterns for this type of garment at a haberdashery (the best part is that they come in different sizes). As I mentioned, I don't like doing repairs, because sometimes, like in this case, it wasn't really a repair, but rather I made a new piece, haha. But since it was something simple and for a beloved dog, I had a great time doing it, not to mention the knowledge I gained in the process. Let's never forget that; it's a kind of gain after all 😉

¡Hola a todos los integrantes de esta comunidad, amantes de las manualidades y de las mascotas! Últimamente me la he pasado inmersa en mis actividades de costura, en su mayoría, elaboración de piezas desde cero, con el fin de aumentar el stock de mi tienda online Suecitos. Aunque confieso que tengo muchas prendas que esperan por ser reparadas (no me gusta hacer reparaciones). Por suerte, son todas mías o de mis familiares, así que no hay prisa con ello 😆 Pero, mi madre llegó con una reparación inesperada, de parte de su jefa, ya que deseaba que reparase la pechera de su querida mascota, una linda Poodle. No iba a publicar sobre ello, pero dado que básicamente la elaboré de nuevo, pensé que serviría de guía para quién desee animarse en la elaboración de piezas para mascotas.
Bien, hablemos del arnés base. Cuando me lo entregaron, me di cuenta de que no había mucho o nada que pudiera hacerse, al menos en el caso de la tela, ya que, tanto la pieza externa como interna, estaban en mal estado. Por otro lado, las cintas y los broches, si estaban funcionales. En casos como estos, es mejor comprar un accesorio nuevo jaja pero como me pidieron fue arreglarlo, hice lo que el cliente pidió 😌

Una vez que desbaraté el arnés, tomé el mismo como patrón y saqué dos piezas: Una en estampado y la otra en unicolor; así como corté unas tiras para elaborar un bies o sesgo, porque corté las piezas al ras (sin aumento de costura).

Lo primero que hice fue coser ambas piezas por todo el borde, dejando en medio, una de las piezas originales del arnés (la que estaba en mejor estado), para darle dureza, ya que las telas que tenía, no eran muy gruesas.
Luego de unir las tiras y plancharlas para formar el bies, procedí a coser el mismo alrededor de la pieza.

Una vez hecho esto, faltaba colocar las cintas con los broches. Había pensado en reciclar las que había sacado del arnés, pero a la cliente no le gustaba la combinación con el rosado de la tela, así que descarté la idea. Por suerte, tenía algo de cinta negra que reciclé de otros proyectos, así que la coloqué como estaba en el arnés.

Primero cosí una tira en el centro de la pieza, en donde coloqué los anillos donde iría la correa y la etiqueta de mi marca, haciendo un par de costuras extras para que los anillos no se moviesen.
Luego, cosí las tiras con los broches, procurando que quedasen iguales a como estaban las otras y de esa forma, el arnés estuvo listo ✨

En éste caso, el trabajo fue bastante sencillo porque tuve el arnés de ejemplo (y ahora tengo el patrón). Pero en el caso de no tenerlo, podemos elaborarlo fácilmente con las medidas de nuestras mascotas con algunos tutoriales o comprando en las mercerías, los patrones para realizar este tipo de piezas (lo mejor, es que vienen por tallas). Como mencioné, no me gusta hacer reparaciones, porque ocurre como en este caso, que no fue una reparación como tal, sino que elaboré una pieza nueva jaja pero, como se trataba de algo sencillo y para una querida perrita, la pasé bastante bien haciéndolo, sin mencionar el conocimiento que adquirí en el proceso. Nunca olvidemos eso, es un tipo de ganancia después de todo 😉
