๐Ÿ– Bask With Me On My Cardboard Beach in Kuala Lumpur ๐Ÿ– #DIY Tropical Surge Contest

Good day, @diyhub family!
How are we all doing today? Iโ€™m doing great and currently basking in the rays of sunlight on my very own cardboard beach ๐Ÿ–๐Ÿ˜‚

When I saw the theme for this monthโ€™s contest, @hivetropical ,I got so excited! The beach has always been one of my favourite places, but itโ€™s been such a long time since my last visit. So, I decided to bring my imagination to life, and with the ideas given by @diyhub, I created a mini tropical beach right on my cardboard!

I honestly wish I could physically attend @hivefest in Kuala Lumpur, but since I canโ€™t, letโ€™s enjoy a little piece of it together through my imagination.

In this post, Iโ€™ll take you through a step-by-step guide on how I created my beach scene on a 6x6-inch cardboard.

Materials Used

8 pieces of 8-inch kebab sticks

Blue cardboard

Carry board pieces

Sand

Glue

Step 1: Making the Frame

I started by creating a sturdy frame. I glued two 8-inch kebab sticks together to form a single, thick stick, repeating the process for all sides, and then joined them to create a 6x6-inch square frame.

Step 2: Creating the Base

Next, I measured and cut a 6x6-inch piece from both the blue cardboard and the carry board. I glued them together for firmness, then carefully trimmed the edges.
After that, I attached the frame using glue and added a fish twine holder at the back so it could hang nicely. I sealed the back with cardboard for a neat finish.

Step 3: Adding the Beach Sand

I marked out the bottom section to represent the shoreline and applied glue where I wanted the sand to stick. Then, I poured sand over the area and let it dry firmly.

To bring the beach to life, I glued on a seashell, a cowry, and white stones. These shells are part of my beach collection from Ghana, which Iโ€™ve treasured for nearly 15 years! Over the years, Iโ€™ve used them in various crafts โ€” and now I only have three left in my collection.

Step 4: Crafting the Beach Umbrella

For the umbrella, I cut a half-circle shape from three folded pieces of cardboard, glued the edges together, and trimmed the sides with a zigzag cut.

I attached a short kebab stick as the handle and painted it using nail polish to add some colour (since I only had blue cardboard). Finally, I glued the umbrella to the top left corner of my frame to create a perfect shady spot!

Step 5: Making the Sun

To create the sun, I used the yellow lid of an old ointment container. I surrounded it with short and long toothpicks to represent the sunโ€™s rays shining down toward the umbrella, and used glue to hold it all in place.

Step 6: Adding Human Presence

To show that someoneโ€™s been relaxing at my beach, I made a tiny pair of yellow slippers!

I sketched a small slipper shape on a macco piece, cut it out twice, and wrapped both in yellow fabric. I used a toothpick to poke a small hole in the centre for the straps and glued them onto the sandy area. Just like that, my beach scene came alive!

And voilร ! My Cardboard Beach in Kuala Lumpur is ready. If you canโ€™t make it to Kuala Lumpur physically, come bask with me here instead. Cheers ๐Ÿฅ‚๐Ÿฅ‚

Thank you so much for coming to my blog. Stay blessed.
