Making A New Purse From My Old Bag

in DIYHub18 days ago

Good day, @diyhub family. I trust we are all doing well. Welcome to my blog. Today, I'd love to show you how I made this cute purse from my old fabric bag.

The old bag was one of my handmade bags from about six years ago. After its handle and part of its flap got damaged, I stopped using it.

On this faithful day, I was ready to discard it, but then my attention was drawn to the magnet and the bag stand, so I decided to carefully dismantle it to pick out things that I could still refuse. Afterwards, I realised I could actually make a new purse from the remains.

Let me share a step-by-step guide on how I made it.
List of materials

Paper from my used hair extension
Macco from my used bag
Black lining materials from my used bag
Magnet from my used bag
Glue
Flower pattern fabric.

Step 1
This step is about measuring the size and shape of my purse. I used 5 inches for the front and back, 3 inches for the base and flap, and then 8 inches for its width. For the gorset (the sides), I used 3 inches for the width, the same as the base and 5 inches for the length. With this, I can get a sizable purse with a lot more space.

Step 2

Cutting out my measurements to get the skeleton for the purse. The first cutout is on my used hair extension paper that served as my carry board. Then I used that cutout to cut the outer of the purse from the Macco waterproof material from my used bag. Then I cut out the two sides of the purse from the remaining hair extension paper.

Step 3

Covering all my cutouts of paper and macco waterproof with lining material, also from my used bag, and the flower pattern fabric. I applied glue generously to one side of both the paper and macco, covered each with the right material.

Black lining material for the paper and fabric for the macco. Carefully rubbed my hands to smooth it and held the remaining edges down with glue that was neatly and firmly applied. For the gorset, I used all the fabric since it's small, and I left extra fabric at the three edges, which would later be tucked in to build the purse.

Step 4

We begin to put it all together. First, we fit both sides to the frame, which is the paper, using glue to secure a firm hold at the sides and the base. Then we fix our magnet. Fixing a magnet for this kind of purse is different ftom fixing a tote bag magnet. The first, part of the magnet is fixed on the macco covered with fabric which will be the outer side of the bag.

You find the midpoint of your flap, place your magnet there and use it to make a mark on the macco right under it. Make a small cut and fix the first part of the magnet.

Step 5

Covering the purse with it's outer side or body, which is the macco the covered part of in is the outer and tso glue is applied to the inner part of the macco to fix the purse frame. Carefully align the edge to fit before glue it together.

F,irst I covered the fronthat , the base and the bag. At this point I glue down a handle I made, specifically with the same flower pattern fabric to one edge of the purse at the flap area. Then I fixed the second part of the mgnet .by findiag the midpoint on the flap, and fixed it. I measured one inch inward then I made I small opening with a nail and then fix the second part of the magnet. Then I applied glue and covered the flap.

And mum's cute purse is ready . So this is a matching purse with my mum's bag because I used same fabric for both. And l love it. Please let me know your thoughts. Do you love it too. Thank you, thank you for passing by. Cheers.
